Treating Animal Humanely
Introduction
Many people think that animal mistreatment is only about dogs in cages or cats who are neglected by their owner, but this aspect is very broad and affects even wild animals. In supermarkets, chicken thigh packets or bacon strips being sold cannot really show what inhumane acts that these animals have been succumbed to. There are a lot of people who are crossing the line of inhumanity acts with animals without their realization or some just choose to look the other way. 5% of reported animal abuse involves domestic dogs and these cases are handled according to the state’s laws (Arluke, 2017). This paper analyzes the effects of inhumane acts on animals, the legislation against these practices, and also the statistics and facts of animals’ emotions.
Facts and Statistics
Most eggs and chicken produce being sold in America originate from hens who are caged in small spaces where they cannot move around or flap their wings. There are millions of animals who are burned or poisoned for the sake of experiments. These animals include mice, rats, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. These tests are made in order to create effective household pesticides or bug poison and elimination methods. Animals such as dogs and cats fall victim to hoarders and are not able to thrive because of cramped resources in such households. This also leads to neglect of care for these animals. Dishes such as shark fish soup are very common in restaurants and these fins are obtained by capturing sharks, removing all their fins, and then throwing them back into the water while it is still alive (Ott, Sanders, & Kobylack, 2017). This cannot only lead to depletion of the shark species, but is also a gruesome act against the sharks.
Legal Measures for Animal Protection
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services is a legal organization that ensures respect for animals is observed as they offer their products for human consumption. These regulations also ensure that there is no slaughtering of diseases or injured animals and that they get veterinary care to treat their diseases. The US has put a ban on gruesome animal acts such as shark finning although it does not ban the importation of shark fins from countries with these acts. The sale and importation of shark fins has been banned in large Asian communities in America such as in New York state and California. All 50 states in American have passed the Federal Animal Cruelty law which helps bring humane values of animals into action by legally recognizing them (Adler, 2017). These laws also recognize that animals suffer just as much as human beings when they are hurt or subjected to mistreatment and poor conditions. Shooting animals is considered an act of animal abuse and police have created animal control units to help bring such cases to the light of legal action. There has also been a direct link of individuals who abuse and are violent towards animals to be associated with other violent criminal activities. The charges of animal abuse are equal to charges of murder or kidnapping in some states. Abusers names are also published in national reporting systems that helps to track them and also charge them appropriately. These ensures that domestic keepers are more cautious of animal inhumanity and also aware that animals are treated with the same level of respect that humans are treated under the law. This means that the US government is working on preventing and reducing the number of animal cruelty incidences and are also making an effort towards making this effective and sustainable. The state recognizes animals meaning that they are just as important as human beings and deserve to have a quality life experience.
Conclusion
Many people do not realize that their pets of animals in general deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. However, behavior patterns of these animals prove that their brains release stimuli that responds to certain traits. The human eye is not able to see the mind working or how emotions are processed, but it is able to see external behaviors and responses. Therefore, it is the duty of the state and human beings to protect animals against gruesome acts simply because they are just like human beings and respond just like them.
