Hello, my name is Kanisha and I have decided to return back to school for a few reasons. I will be using the bridge's model of transition to reflect on my transition to the professional level role. First, I am a returning BSN nursing student because last year I had to drop my role as a student due to my load being overwhelming as a single mom. Within the last year returning back to school weighted heavy on my mind because yes, receiving my BSN degree would be a huge accomplishment and worth it in the end. Secondly, I am returning to school to obtain my BSN because it will be very rewarding to finally be a BSN nurse. Stepping into this role as the professional nurse is going to be challenging for me because I have never done online courses before and I am not a fan of online school, but if I give it my all I believe I will overcome.
The Bridges Transition model explains the nurse transition from novice nurse to the professional nurse, in which the nurse is affected in many ways by external and internal struggles when one may experience change. The nurse gradually move through three phases (Blaise,2016). I see myself at the final phase in the model. The new beginning phase. The reason for this is because I have accepted my role as a nursing student once again. I have accepted that this will be a temporary change and I am able to take on the responsibility, and behavior needed to take on this role. Some characteristics and skills I will need to be successful in this role, and to remain at this level of the model are time management, computer/technology skills, and consistency in completing all course work. The last year I have moved through this model, preparing myself for this moment of readiness.

Returning to nursing school for my bachelor's degree was something that I did not take lightly when considering the time and dedication it was going to take. My main reason for returning to school for my bachelor's degree is so that I can continue even further and obtain my master's degree and become a family nurse practitioner. I have hopes to one day become a nurse practitioner in women's health as that is where my passion currently is. I have been a labor and delivery nurse since 2019 and as much as I would love to go into midwifery, I feel that the family nurse practitioner route provides more opportunity for growth in my future. I am excited for this journey and continuing my education starting with this bachelor's degree program.
The Bridges Model of Transition puts the transition of associate degree nursing to bachelor's degree nursing into perspective. I feel like as nurses we use this transition model without even realizing it throughout our nursing career. Anytime a change is made even on a simple level we have to go through a transition to adapt to the new change. According to Campbell (2018) The Bridges Model of Transition deals with change on an individual level and suggests that changes made in healthcare systems require us to transition from one identity to a new identity when changes are made in the healthcare system. This also applies to nurses transitioning from an associate degree nurse to a bachelor's degree nurse.
I believe I am currently in the ending phase of the Bridges Model of Transition. I feel as if I am currently having a hard time letting go of my normal ways of thinking and changing my thought processes into a more professional and technological mindset. Once I am able to fully commit to accepting this change, I believe that I will be able to move to the second step in the model and put my old ways of thinking to rest and accept the new changes that are happening in my life. I am excited to see where this journey takes me, and I am willing and excited to go through the stages of the Bridges Model of Transition to become the best nurse I can be.
