The key informatics competencies every nurse should possess are technological skills, data management, information literacy, and privacy and security knowledge. Because it enables nurses to efficiently gather, arrange, and evaluate patient data, data management is crucial (Zareshahi et al., 2022). A nurse who has mastered data management techniques will be able to make sure patient data is documented accurately, spot trends or patterns in patient data, and base choices on solid facts. By identifying possible dangers or places where patient care needs to be improved, this ability can enable nurses to offer proactive, individualized care. 

     Information literacy is yet another essential skill that I think every nurse needs to possess. It is crucial for nurses to be skilled in finding, assessing, and using the large amount of information that is available in the modern digital age (Batran et al., 2022) . I have seen firsthand how information literacy affects my work. Nurses are able to give patients evidence-based care by remaining current on the most recent research, treatment recommendations, and best practices. With the help of this competency, we can make wise clinical judgments that will benefit patients and make them happier. 

Electronic health record (EHR) systems, patient monitoring systems, and other digital tools utilized in healthcare settings are among the technology that nurses should feel at ease with. Along with having a fundamental understanding of how these systems operate, they should also be able to diagnose common technical faults (Peltonen et al., 2023) . 

The ethical and legal ramifications of employing digital technologies in healthcare, particularly the need to safeguard patient privacy and health information security, are also important for nurses to comprehend (Kinnunen et al., 2022).  

How can those competencies impact improvements in healthcare outcomes in your organization? 

    These proficiencies have the potential to greatly influence healthcare results in a number of ways: Having better data management can help providers make more educated decisions. Through precise collection, organization, and analysis of patient data, nurses are able to recognize patterns, track patients' progress, and anticipate possible health hazards (Batko & Ślęzak, 2022). Timely interventions, individualized treatment regimens, and ultimately better patient outcomes can arise from this. 

    Nursing professionals may remain current on standards, best practices, and research in the field thanks to this competency. Through the efficient search, assessment, and utilization of this data, nurses may deliver evidence-based care, which has been linked to better patient outcomes. To better treat symptoms, find disease prevention initiatives, and teach patients about their diseases, for instance, information literacy can be a valuable tool for nurses (Farokhzadian et al., 2021). The effectiveness and precision of patient treatment can be improved by having a strong grasp of healthcare technology, including electronic health records (EHRs), telehealth platforms, and patient monitoring systems. For example, electronic health records (EHRs) can lower prescription administration errors, enhance provider communication, and make it easier to monitor patients' progress over time. Better patient outcomes, such as fewer readmissions to hospitals and better chronic condition care, may result from these advancements (Nes et al., 2021). 

    By being aware of the significance of safeguarding patient privacy and health information, breaches that can jeopardize patient safety and confidence can be avoided. For example, identity theft, discrimination, or other negative effects could result from the release of a patient's private health information. Nurses can guarantee patients feel comfortable sharing their health information, which is essential for delivering thorough and efficient treatment, by upholding privacy and security. 

    In conclusion, these skills have the potential to improve patient outcomes by facilitating evidence-based practice, protecting patient privacy and safety, enhancing the quality of patient care, and enhancing communication among healthcare practitioners. 

DEM-Rhina:

Scientific Foundation competencies critically analyzes data and evidence-based practice (EBP) to improve APN. It also puts into practice research and other knowledge to improve patient care outcomes. Lastly, scientific foundation develops new practice approaches based on EBP, theory and practice experience. New technology allows us to be more efficient such as being able to send prescriptions electronically which it has been proven to improve the quality of care of patients tremendously. Patients can go to their pharmacy right after discharge and pick up their medication without having to wait for their medicine at the pharmacy or sometimes even have to come back another day to pick up delaying the treatment.  The TIGER first came into Evidence and Informatics Transforming Nursing, in 2006, its goal is to encourage leaders in nursing, the government, informatics and technology organizations to create a team and work together to create and transform nursing by using the latest technology as is more effective, patient-centered care, timely and effective by integrating technology and evidence-based practice in the healthcare system.  Also, new technology is becoming a great tool to educate patients and engage them more in their treatment plan such as messaging their PCP through the portal and getting a response within a few hours rather than having to make an appointment and wait for days to address the problem. Moreover, patients are able to review their testing results in a timely manner rather than wait for a call from their PCP to find out, also the labs and test have a reference page that can educate them on what the results mean. 

Moreover, leadership allows nurses to make changes in policies, protocols, rules and regulations at the hospital, community or even at the government level as well as to improve, implement or introduce new research evidence (EBP). Clinical Decision Support consist of a variety of tools to enhance decision making in healthcare such as alerts and/or reminders to nurses, providers and patients, clinical guidelines, patient data, documentation sets, and other support to improve quality of care, decrease error, improve patient outcome and more efficiency that promotes patient satisfaction.  

Lastly, it is important develop appropriate communication, as a DNP multidisciplinary treatment approach requires proper communication for the patient's benefit. A DNP must learn to listen to the patient and the other team member caring for the patient's health. Also, as a primary care provider, honesty, clarity, and transparency are essential to developing rapport with a patient; a DNP needs to be able to communicate professionally towards staff using medical terminology; however, when talking to a patient, it is vital to use as simple language as possible because most likely the patient does not have a medical background and sometimes that can lead to misunderstanding which can destroy the trust of the patient but always maintaining professionalism. Research articles show that patients are more likely to sue their healthcare provider due to a lack of communication. Patients felt that the provider did not listen to them, would not discuss the case openly or truthfully, or thought that the provider tried to mislead them (Huntington, 2003). It is important to listen carefully, ask for clarification when in doubt, use simple language and be straightforward, use appropriate body language, ensure you are understood, and maintain eye contact when applicable because eye contact can be perceived as rude in some cultures. Using EHR system it can help to improve nurse to patient and provider to patient communication by using the patient data and determine patient`s primary language. 

MOM-Teona:

Nursing informatics has evolved throughout the years and will continue to expand. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught the healthcare industry the importance of the nursing workforce and highlighted how the use of technology can enhance patient outcomes. By leverage informatics within the healthcare industry nurses can conduit their knowledge of clinical workflows and capabilities of emerging technology to offer solutions to many ongoing challenges. 

Based on the author’s experience and knowledge gained from the course, all nurses should possess basic proficiency in using the electronic health record (EHR), basic computer skills coupled with knowledge of data management, ethics, software management, web search methods, English proficiency, and data privacy laws (Zareshahi et al., 2022). It is also important that nurses possess skills in communicating with patients and colleagues via digital mediums.  

Researchers have found that with the growth of information and communication technologies there has been equally increasing emphasis on patient safety, care quality, and nursing informatics education (Park & Park, 2022). It is crucial for nurses to understand the impact of informatics in driving positive health outcomes for patients, communities, and the healthcare sector. 

How Nursing Informatics Competencies Impact Healthcare Organizations 

Within the author's current healthcare setting nurses who possess informatics competencies can leverage technology to collect and analyze data on patient satisfaction, process efficiency and clinical outcomes within a psychiatric hospital setting. 

Further, nursing informatics can be used to reduce medication errors, ensure accurate patient information, and reduce adverse healthcare outcomes for patients. Nurses who possess adequate knowledge in information systems and computer literacy have more opportunities to provide quality patient care (Zareshahi et al., 2022). 

Additionally, nurses who are trained in informatics and are proficient in competencies such as basic computer skills, knowledge of data management, ethics, software management, and web search methods can effectively utilize health information technology (HIT) with clinical demands (Jouparinejad et al., 2020). 

Moreover, nurses can use technology to foster patient involvement in their care by providing educational resources digitally, offer tele-health services and self-management tools, which can improve psychiatric patient outcomes and satisfaction. Nurses can also leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning’ algorithms to absorb large amounts of historical and real-time data and use it to predict outcomes and recommend treatment options as new data are entered by clinicians (Holmgren et al., 2023). 

In conclusion, it is paramount that nurses develop informatics competencies to deliver high-quality patient outcomes. Some important qualities include basic computer skills, knowledge of data management, and data privacy laws. 

MOM-Claudine:

Nursing practice is constantly changing, and the need for appropriate competencies in specific areas of nursing is essential for the provision of safe and effective care. As a profession that depends on the use of technology, the need for appropriate higher and continuing education programs in nursing with a focus on informatics competency is critical to developing and maintaining effective practice. Therefore, for nurses to effectively manage informatics systems, they must have a basic understanding of computer hardware and software. This includes knowledge of the essential parts of a computer system, the basics of computer networks, and how data is stored and retrieved (Kleibet et al., 2021). The ability to troubleshoot system errors and difficulties is a talent that nurses possess that ensures effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of healthcare services. In addition, the ability to coordinate organizational tasks and deal with system failures is another benefit of acquiring these skills for nurse informaticists. These skills also enable nursing informaticians to assess the reliability of new organizational systems and gain access to them to perform all organizational tasks.

How Nursing Informatics Competencies Impact Healthcare Organizations

Khezri & Abdekhoda (2019) emphasize the importance of nursing informaticians understanding the basic concepts of data security and information management. These skills are essential to ensuring data security within the organization, protecting patient privacy, and maintaining the accuracy of medical records. They are critical to defending against cybersecurity risks that could jeopardize patient privacy, lead to financial loss, or promote illegal activity. Nursing informaticists should use these skills to connect departments to ensure collaboration in patient care and easy monitoring of organizational operations.

With this strategy, activities can be managed more centrally,  giving managers the ability to monitor the use of resources and prevent violations that could negatively impact their organization (Batranent et al., 2022).

According to Kleibet et al. (2021) and Khezri & Abdekhoda (2019), managing health information systems requires two key skills. By utilizing these skills, nursing informaticists can ensure the efficiency and reliability of new technologies while providing safe and effective medical care.  In addition, they gain knowledge of the system's hardware and software to troubleshoot system malfunctions and ensure systematic data organization for easy retrieval. According to Khezri & Abdekhoda (2019), a multidisciplinary approach to patient care is crucial as it enables healthcare professionals to support rigorous safety measures in all areas. By acquiring these skills, nurse informaticists can prevent security breaches that could lead to data loss and guarantee a secure and effective healthcare system.

The competence of nursing informatics specialists is assessed using the Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform Informatics Competency (TIGER) tool (Kleibet et al., 2021). Assessing a nurse informaticist's skills in utilizing existing systems and troubleshooting system errors that could hinder service delivery is beneficial to healthcare organizations. Improving healthcare outcomes in practice requires certain skills. Nursing informaticists can utilize these skills to monitor practice gaps, conduct QI initiatives, and improve patient outcomes (Khezri & Abdekhoda, 2019). Using these tools also enables better decision-making that benefits patient health outcomes. In conclusion, TIGER is a useful tool for improving the competence of nursing informatics professionals.
