Hey guys. So the first thing that came to mind about reading the prompt for this week's discussion post was the outbreak of Canada or Candida. Candida. However, you pronounce it. In the health care system currently. The reason that it came to mind is because we currently have two patients that have it on the unit that I currently work on. The organization or the website that I went to and have found some information on it was the US Department of Health and Human Services. But you can also find it. I'm sure we're getting e-mails as well from the Virginia Department of Health since we are having an outbreak of it in Virginia alone as well. And it's reported with the CDC in different organizations are really looking into it. The cool thing about it, the cool thing about the fungus, but not necessarily. What is nice about it for the disease or infectious process, is that it does spread very easily. And I currently work mostly with burn patients so they can infect the wound as well as the bloodstream. So that's what we're dealing with right now. And so what we've come up with is we they're old policy on the burn unit was to gown with every patient. Now we every patient on the units on contact precautions. But on certain patients, we have them paired together or we change our scrubs after going in and out of each room. And then we also change our mask that is now recommended by the CDC when going in and out of each room. So that's one of the interventions that we have put into our current practice and that is currently taking place. The website was really cool. It did talk about how it's not as big as I thought it was. I thought the way that the Virginia Department of Health talks about it is that it is everywhere. But when looking at the US Department of Health and Human Services website, it really isn't. And in many states as of yet. So that is something that is good to know and try to stop the spread of it. We do culture our patients every week to see if they come back positive for it. And so far none of our patients, it has not spread since we've implemented the gowning into each room and changing our scrubs. So that's promising. We have had one patient pathway and not necessarily because of the fungal infection that he acquired, but he was not able to get intervention's he needed because of said fungal infections. So that is definitely something to look out for as well.
