National Health Care Trade-Offs
Introduction As the debate over rising health care costs in the U.S. continues, different parties
argue for different solutions. Some call for more competition among private health
insurance companies. Others say that a national health care system administered
by the government is the right path. Still others argue for a blend of these options.
With any of these solutions, there are tradeoffs between cost, access, and other
factors. To solve one problem – say, higher premiums – is often to exacerbate
another, such as longer wait times for care.
