National Health Care Trade-Offs

Introduction As the debate over rising health care costs in the U.S. continues, different parties

argue for different solutions. Some call for more competition among private health

insurance companies. Others say that a national health care system administered

by the government is the right path. Still others argue for a blend of these options.

With any of these solutions, there are tradeoffs between cost, access, and other

factors. To solve one problem – say, higher premiums – is often to exacerbate

another, such as longer wait times for care.
