Toys, toys, toys
In an essay entitled, “Toys, Games and Childhood,” the authors argue that the sheer number of toys available to children today is a cause for concern for three reasons: the tremendous economic cost to adults associated with purchasing toys; the disposable nature of toys and the desire to always want (and get) the newest action figure, doll, computer game, or electronic device; and finally the concern that these toys do not fully stimulate a child’s imagination (Papadomichelaki and Vance 239-241). But not everyone agrees with this line of thinking. Some people see toys as a method of escape or diversion, a way for children and adults to pass the time. Others see toys as having the potential to educate and inform children about the world around them and to stimulate children’s imaginations through toys such as dolls, video games, or computer software. Some people see toys such as skateboards, footballs, bicycles, and such as a way for kids to become more active and better coordinated. Still others see musical instruments and electronic devices such as ipods as ways for children to experience and learn about music. Some people even see video games, board games and puzzles like Sudoku, Tetris, and World of Warcraft as building problem-solving skills. Even others are happy to provide children with cardboard boxes, sticks, paint, scissors, paper and glue to allow children to invent and design their own toys. For this essay, please discuss your vision of the ideal toy. Be sure to describe the toy and explain what benefits it might provide for the child who plays with it. Support your ideas with detailed evidence and be sure to spend some time editing your work.
Toys are basically as play tools for the children. The toys are simple, homemade and technical materials which purchased in toy shop. Most of people agree the important of toys in the development of children. However, there are parents who concerns that some toys of toys may affect negative development and intellectual development their children. Therefore, demands that parents should be carefully while making choice of toys for their young ones. By the way, it is not easily of make right decision choice of toys for children. This is because many parents do not know what kind of toys will best serve the interest and fit for the children. In addition to being safe, ideal toys should promote both cognitive and physical development of child. Block roc or toy block is an example of an ideal toys. There are plastic, wooden or foam which in are different colors and shape are used to building some model of toys.
Toys block can positively impact the thinking of children. Construction of plans which make creativity and inspire important skill for the children. According to Keen(2011), it is important that parents and teacher develop environment that tend to solve problem at a small age. In my opinion, construction toys seem to be the best toys to serve the purpose. Physically, toys blocks help in development of activity skill in children. The physical movement of the hand and other parts of the body as the child build with the block encourage the development of brain skill. Toy block are also lead children increase the skill of hand-eye coordination.
Through the research, that construction play helps in development of spatial skill of children. According to Oostermeijer, Boonen and Joles(2014). Toy blocks inspire young people to make spatial interaction and something cycle in their minds. This increase the development of spatial skills. Toys blocs are also improving development of math ability according to Verdien, Golikof, Hirsh-Pasek, Newcombe, Filipucz, and Chnag(2013), A study research in Netherlands that student of 6th grade that student who construct play recorded higher performance in multiple time on Math. This indicated a good relationship between creating different structure and math ability.
On the other hand, psychological have identified the important of toy blocs in problem solving. Basically, there are two types of problem that is convergent and divergent. Convergent problem does not have any option, so only one single solution. On the contract, divergent can be use a lot of approach. Because toys blocs allowed children to put different structure in different ways. That makes children develop thinking on how to deal problem and challenge.
Toy blocks are also benefic to older children. Oostermeijer,Boonen and Joles(2014), the teenager who are like to construction play recorded higher educational performance. Follow the reported, there are people have performance in physical sciences including physics and chemistry. Toy play is expanding their thinking on issues and make the faster how to solve physical problems. In order to for children to get the best of toy blocs. It is recommended parents should show to them and sometimes challenging them with building responsibilities. This is make child to gain skills.
