	It will be a speech at a wedding reception held at the church on Sunday.
A2 .	Who is the audience and what are their characteristics?
	The audience will include close friends, family, co-workers, and the friends and family of those invited. The audience's characteristics will be a mixture of all genders, sex, ages, cultures, and races.
A3 .	Why has the audience come to hear the speech?
	The audience will be listening to the speech because they will be celebrating the union of Mr. and Mrs. John.

	The audience’s interest includes love, happiness, and enjoyment among friends and family.

	The audience has an idea of the topic because it will mainly cover the wedding couple.

	The point of view will be in the third person because the speech will cover the married couple.
A7 .	How will the audience likely react to your speech?
	The audience will applaud, laugh, and smile as ways of reacting to the speech.

Purpose

P1.	What do you want your audience to know?
	The audience should know that the day will be extraordinary for the bride and groom, and they should make it memorable.
P2.	What do you want your audience to think?
	The audience should have positive thoughts throughout the event because they also play a part in making the day a special moment for the bride and groom. Everything during the event will be whole, so they get invited to help commemorate the day.
P3.	What do you want your audience to feel?
	The audience should feel happy, thankful, engaged, and supportive.
P4 .	What do you want your audience to do?
	The audience should support the newlyweds and enjoy themselves as they celebrate a beautiful day.

Thesis

T1 .	What is the most important message of your speech?
	The most important message of my speech is to express my happiness for the newlyweds and show gratitude for being invited to witness the union. I will also entertain and wish the couple the best of luck in their marriage.
T2.	Why should/will your audience care about your message?
	The audience should care about the speech because they are coming together to witness the union of two people, their families, and their friends.

	The audience, thesis, and purpose align because they all focus on the speech's purpose and why people are gathered there on that day.

	As a result of speech preparation, I have learned how to think critically and prepare before writing a speech.

A special occasion speech is unique for two reasons: it is a personal gift that the speaker shares with the audience, and the speaker’s use of language is more poetic and creative than in other types of speeches. 

An audience analysis is a critical first step in developing a speech. Because your speech's context is clear to you, the purpose of this first assignment is to make the topic and the audience unfamiliar so that you can discover new and essential insights that will impact the content of the speech. Focusing on the audience's particular interests in the couple from your perspective will allow you to use the rhetorical triangle to deliver your message successfully.   Your role as a featured will also have an impact on the audience's understanding of your message.

Before you begin the next unit, it is worthwhile to read the directions and rubrics for Touchstone 2 - 4 to understand and anticipate the required work. I look forward to reviewing your next assignment.

When analyzing an audience, a speaker considers specific demographic characteristics (age,  race, ethnicity, gender, marital status, income, education, employment, and the dominant/non-dominant cultures of the individuals in this group). These specific details will inform the speaker’s approach.

Because the couple has asked you to speak at their reception, you have a unique perspective to offer their guests. They are interested in what you say about the day, the couple, and your message.

� In the context of a special occasion speech, the audience’s point of view of the message and the topic is considered supportive.

In other types of speeches, the individuals that make up the audience can be divided into four (4) groups: supportive, opposed, indifferent, or undecided. When a speaker anticipates each point of view/response, the speaker can tailor the message for each audience type.
