Paper topic summary
A low-carb diet is a diet that limits the intake of carbohydrates, especially simple carbohydrates such as those found in processed foods, starchy foods, while encouraging people to have a high intake of fatty and protein foods. A low-carb diet's primary purpose is to help people in their weight loss journey, but the diet may also help people avoid type-2 diabetes and reduce metabolic syndrome. The low-carb diet began back in 1972 when Dr. Robert Atkins documented his low-carb diet experience in his book "New Diet Revolution." After people read the book, the low-carb diet came to be referred to as the Atkins diet, and it went viral all over the world. Various researchers have established their diets, such as the zone diets, Eco-Atkins diet, and paleo diet but all have the primary goal of ensuring people consume more fats and proteins and fewer carbohydrates. Low-carb diets have been proven to help people reduce their weight and d away with many metabolic issues. Cutting down on carbs does not necessarily mean that one has to stop eating carbs entirely; it means one has to reduce the intake of carbs bit by bit. Eating a lot of fats and proteins have their consequences that comes with excess fats and proteins. In the project, I also intend to address the side and positive effects of a low-carb diet. I expect the research that I will conduct to reveal how the low-carb diet acts to allow people to reduce their weight. The topic that I am addressing is essential because people developing weight-related complications are increasing each day.

In the research article above, the authors research how best an individual can lose weight without undergoing the need for fasting. The authors focused their research on obese patients who were under doctor's instruction to lose weight. The authors did qualitative research in the research work where they enrolled 22 obese patients on their six weeks' research program of low-carbs diet. After the six weeks' research process, the results indicated that the participants had reduced their weight, which led the researchers to conclude that a low-carb diet effectively reduces weight without fasting. The article does not address the research gap about the side effects of the low-carbs diet.

In the above article, Kikuchi focused his research on the safety of a low-carb diet. In the article, Kikuchi claims that there is little evidence of a low-carb diet in Japan hence the need to research low-carb diet safety. In the research work, the author randomly assigned forty-two overweight Japanese adults with low-carb diets for a maximum of three months. Each month of the research work, calorie data was collected among the research participants compared to the previous month. At the end of the three-month research process, the results indicated an average of 8.5kg weight loss among the participants. The research concluded that a low-carb diet is an effective weight loss diet and safe for everyone.

In the above article, the research focused on how effective is a low-carb diet in controlling the glycemic control of type two diabetes in children. Despite the development of technology, diabetes management remains on the diet of an individual with type two diabetes. In the research work, the author surveyed three hundred and sixteen participants. The inclusion criteria were anyone below the adult age and suffered from diabetes type two. In the research process, the author noted that children with diabetes kind two and were exposed to low-carb diets could control their glycemic levels compared to children who did not observe a low-carb diet. In the conclusion section, the author agreed that low-carb diets helped manage diabetes type two in children by controlling the levels of glycemic.
Research Agenda
In developing the full research work, I will need to search for more resources that address issues related to a low-carb diet. The currently identified resources do need to address the gap in the side effects of a low-carb diet. There is no need for more resources that address the research topic's historical background because that is not the main issue being handled by the research topic.
