On April 27th, the CDC updated their guidelines on outdoor mask wearing, essentially focusing their strategy on indoor transmission prevention.  Notably, they indicated that outdoor transmission likelihood was <10%.  In reality, it's closer to .01%.  Notably, throughout the pandemic the CDC have been markedly cautious and conservative in their recommendations.  16 days later, they updated their mask stance to eliminate the need for masks for fully vaccinated people (except in a few select environments).

Ideas for discussion:

-How does this affect you?

-What do you think could be the CDC's motivation behind this?

-Do you think this is too soon?  Is it good/bad?

-As an APRN how do you explain the constantly changing recommendations?  How can you reassure your patients/family that they can trust these recommendations?

-Do you think this will encourage more people to get vaccinated?

-Does it matter that 223 fully vaccinated people in the US have died from COVID19?  And 1,359 have been hospitalized?
