Sex Slavery Video Assignment

This assignment is required and counts towards your grade in this course.

Purpose

This video will explore stories of sexual trafficking victims as well as societal norms for the practices and victims. It will provide an opportunity to write your learning, share your thoughts with others, and learn from other perspectives in the class.

Watch the "Fight Against Sex Slavery" video that is linked above. You can also access this video from

This video is a TEDTalk by Sunitha Krishnan who discusses the human rights violations of child trafficking and human sex slavery.

FYI: This video clip contains graphic statements and images of sexual abuse of children that some students may find disturbing and/or traumatic.

After watching the video, select 3 of the following 4 questions and share your answers on the discussion board forum titled, “Sex Slavery Discussion”.

Do some research... What is the occurrence of child trafficking in the U.S.? What are some of your reactions to the stories and examples Sunitha shares in her talk? Explain the concept of 'normalization' as presented in the video and discuss how this could relate to the failure of sex victims and sex workers to seek help and/or a new trade. What are some of the reasons you can think of for why societies and individuals stigmatize and shun sex trafficking victims?

Proofreading is expected and you will need to use complete sentences. Multiple errors (in grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization) will result in a loss of 1 point (10%) on this assignment.

Citations are not required on this assignment unless you consult a resource other than the video or textbook. However, plagiarized work (see Syllabus for definition of plagiarism) will result in a 0 on this assignment - there are no exceptions.
