Dear Students,

If you recall, in your "Essay" assignment you were to define yourself.  Now, for this assignment, you are strictly going to discuss your awareness of your physical presence in relationship to your biology/genetics, and then examine the bi-directional influence between your physical presence and its social environment.

Below, I have provided some question to strongly encourage you to critically consider how your physical presence is more or less keenly felt in different social contexts and identify the inherent privileges.  For example, if you won the genetic lottery of receiving green eyes, which is socially considered the most attractive eye color, all things being equal, you are more likely to be treated nicely by your peers/society.

On the other hand, if you won the genetic lottery to have brown or dark colored skin, which I find to be Beautiful, Lovely, and Marvelous, but many of my peers/America do not, then you are substantially more likely to be a victim of racism and discrimination

Now, in the event that you are unaware, both eye color and skin color are determined by the biological pigment “melanin!”

Please refer to Section 6 (PREPARING ASSIGNMENTS FOR SUBMISSION) of the syllabus prior to starting your assignment.  Finally, you will not need references for this assignment, but you must be thorough.  To that end, your document should be 3 pages (the cover page is page 1).

Best,

Dr. Jefferson
