The World Health Organization defines interprofessional as multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds who work together with patients, families, caregivers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care. The main objective of interprofessional collaboration is to provide quality healthcare through sharing and resourceful interactions. Efficient interprofessional collaboration should promote the active participation of each discipline in patient care and patient needs. The collaboration will help improve patient care and outcomes since each have a unique perspective and valuable insights about the patient; this promotes a comprehensive, holistic view of the quality patient care and much error reduction (Hardin, Kilian, & Spykerman, 2018). The collaboration will reduce medical errors, which has contributed to many patient deaths. Medical error reduction will be achieved by group conversation and interprofessional consultation and communication. It will eventually ensure nurses have all the relevant information they need to treat patients safely. Again, the interprofessional collaboration also creates a continuum of care across the healthcare boundaries. The collaboration also delivers integrated healthcare to patients, which reduces the overutilization of healthcare resources (Hardin, Kilian, & Spykerman, 2018). The emerging trend which requires interprofessional collaboration is the issue of mending staff relationships across the healthcare discipline. Egoism and fragmentation of healthcare service in the health system can be sealed by enhancing interprofessional collaboration. The current trend where healthcare providers opt for self-centered healthcare and rigidity can sometimes adversely impact healthcare (Hill, E, Gurbutt D, & M, 2019).
