Concert Reviewing Tips

 Quietly take some notes during the concert

 Write your review as soon as possible following the concert

 Consult your MUL 1010 Syllabus to get the specified format

Title: Name the concert performer in the title

Introduction: Briefly describe the preconcert milieu--- the physical and social environment prior being admitted into the hall. Be sure to mention the performer/s, the date time and location. You

may mention the compositions and composers as well.

The Body of the Paper:  You may briefly describe the inside of the concert hall—the main focus should be on the music

and the performance.

 What was your overall reaction to the program? For instance, was there enough variety?

Which style periods were represented?

 Focus on the compositions you liked most. Specifically name the composition and the

composer, and describe the feelings or moods they evoked. What did you like about each

piece? The melody? Rhythm? Harmony? Energy? Were they written for guitar or another

instrument and arranged for guitar? Were any images/stories suggested by the music?

 Comment on the artistry of the performer. Did he/she play smoothy? Effortlessly? Was

the performer virtuosic? Were there any catastrophes? Did he\she communicate with the

audience? Did he/she seem friendly?

 Discuss things you didn’t like.

 Be sure to write this paper in past tense.

 Anything else?

 Conclusion

 Be sure to underline or Italicize Titles of compositions

 Do NOT use terms incorrectly. Do not use the term “song” to refer to anything other than

a song

 Do not use colloquialisms such as “so and so was on point” or “it had a Latin vibe to it”

 This is your reaction to a performance, but write on a college level, precisely and succinctly .
