Assignments (Objective view of the organization)
· Each assignment has a description and clarification
· You have three distinct audiences; (1) an executive leader within the organization, (2) a graduate program selection committee requesting a writing sample, and (3) the internship coordinator.
· You are writing portions of a culminating paper. Topics and writing guidelines are included. Your challenge will be to write so your audience gains insight into your internship experience, without knowing that you are answering specific questions. The challenge for you is transitioning from topic to topic that flows naturally for your reader. It's not appropriate to write about organizational structure and then say, "now I'm going to talk about finance."Your responsibility is to create a transitional statement between each paper and topic.
· Assignments are written using an objective language. Avoid using terms such as "we", "our", "us". You are not permitted to write on behalf of the organization. You are reporting objectively about what you observe. Your responsibility is to inform the reader about your observations, not your opinions. Examples of opinions, "my supervisor is a wonderful person", "the organization is in great financial shape". You must support your objective observation with facts, NOT opinions.
· The "assignments" must be written using a business writing approach. As future administrators, you are responsible for writing clear, concise and specific information. The CEO or President of a company does not have time to read opinions or your thoughts. Administrators must paint a picture for their reader and take them on a journey, being careful to transition from one topic to another. Transitioning of paragraphs is important.
· Headers are used by readers to locate key topics. As the author, it is your responsibility to create a transitional sentence or paragraph before the next topic and assist your reader with understanding your organization and approach.
