Kenneth Himes is asked in Question 14: "Why does the church get caught up in political and economic issues that others should be dealing with instead of doing the one thing the church is supposed to do, serve the spiritual dimension of life?" How does Himes try to make the case that it is appropriate for churches to be involved in political and economic issues? Do you think it is appropriate (and perhaps also good and desirable) in a democratic and pluralistic society for religious believers to bring their religious beliefs and values into public discussions and debates about political and economic issues? According to Himes would that conflict at all with the first amendment regarding the separation of church and state? Finally, include a significant connection to the ideas of John Lewis in the video. He is saying that he would like to see faith and spirituality more frequently and deeply involved in politics. Why do you think he says that and do you agree?
