Module 01 Project – Topic Introduction

Public Health

Public health, by definition, refers to the wholesome health of the general population subjected to the guidelines, regulations, and support from the local government (Lee, 2017). Public health is considered a branch of medicine that deals with the health of general population including disease prevention, hygiene, and epidemiology. Public health involves providing the public with education about healthy choices—promotion of physical activities and fitness targeted at preventing the spread of diseases (Lee, 2017). I chose this topic as a healthcare provider. Exploring this topic of public health is essential towards improvement and providing healthcare services of high quality and safety. Another reason for choosing this topic is that my career goal as a medical practitioner is to target the neglected population with public health services. Public health also has direct links with my career objectives. Therefore, my thought is that in the course of being a public health practitioner, I will be able to realize my career objectives as well as objectives of public health.

Public Health is essential to me for the following reasons.

The study and direct engagement in public health services can learn from gaining more knowledge and skills in practicing healthcare services. Public health practices allow me to develop the community by promoting the welfare of the population. Community welfare is promoted by protecting the people from any hazards and ensuring they can access safe and quality care to benefit the people. Practicing public health will help me develop skills and knowledge to detect health issues in the community as early as possible and give response that is appropriate for avoiding the spread of the developing health issues or diseases. Engagement in public health is essential to me especially in realizing the objectives of it. One of the goals is to ensure good mental health among the community populations and it is achieved by promoting healthy behaviors in the community. Creation of awareness among the young people in the community. By urging them to avoid engaging in deviance activities instead of focusing on community sustainable development.
