Coats by Jane Kenyon
https://www.wenaus.org/poetry/coats.html
Read the poem Coats by Jane Kenyon. Afterwards write your thoughts on how the situation/location/thing in the poem evokes an emotion. You also have the option of writing that the poem does not evoke an emotion. What is it about the situation/location/thing in the poem that doesn't translate into an emotion? Or does the poem simply state the emotion too explicitly? How would you have altered the poem to produce a deeper reader response?
Initial post should be 200 words and written in your own words.
Definition Discussion
Think about what you've read concerning defining abstract terms. Then consider the idea of success and the different ways people define success; or, a concept like manners and how different communities experience good and bad manners very differently.
Or, you could explore more complex social topics, like what it means to be a good person, or what family means across cultures.
Select one of the concepts to explore, and be sure to explain the different interpretations of the concept, and give examples.
And, finally, reflect on why that concept is interpreted differently across groups. What leads to these different interpretations?
Requirements
Treat this as a free write. Simply offer your reflections in a min of 250 words.
You are not required to respond to others; but if you see an interesting response by your peers, I encourage you to engage a conversation with each other.

Summary:
Write a 500-word definition essay. Remember that concrete words don't necessarily have to be defined. However, abstract terms often require that you define your thoughts/viewpoint on the concept. For example words like: family, love, wealth, success and even hate, mean different things to different people and therefore, it is necessary that they be defined.
The essay should include the following elements:
A title,
An introduction,
A thesis,
Several body paragraphs,
A conclusion.
And, works cited, if outside sources are used.
There are no outside sources required (though many students have used the dictionary in the past). Plagiarism will earn a grade of zero.
