Some have had questions about the differences between formats for this week's work.  To that end, I've written a quick example that shows how the exact same scene would be written in split column and in narrative:

SPLIT COLUMN

VIDEO

AUDIO

1.     XWS – EXT – COLLEGE YARD – NIGHT

The HERO walks across the deserted yard, lit only by a few streetlights and a full moon.

1. SFX: Wind BLOWING

NARRATIVE:

EXT. COLLEGE YARD – NIGHT

In a vast college quadrangle, bigger than a football field, the only living soul is the HERO.  He walks down the center sidewalk, with only a few pools of illumination from the scattered streetlights and a bright full moon overhead.  A chill autumn wind blows across the quad.

Designating a shot in split-column is easy; if you see an eXtreme Wide Shot, write XWS as in the example above.  On the other hand, you cannot just specify the shot in narrative; you can only suggest.  Still, reading the description, you ought to get a rough picture in your mind's eye that we can see this huge space all at the same time -- thus, we need an extreme wide shot.

I fully grant you that the latter is much more difficult, and thus I assure you that, as with the previous work on descriptions, I will acknowledge any "baby steps" in the right direction with credit in the evaluation.
