The Underworld Assignment 60 points Part I: Illustrated Map of the Underworld (30 points) Your assignment is to create an illustrated map of the Underworld. From what you have learned in ths section, draw a map of the Underworld as you envision it to be. You will include at least 20 elements (places, people, etc.) found in the Underworld. One of the elements will be the path you take through the Underworld in your narration. (See Part II below.) The illustration should fill up an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper that can be easily scanned to submit as a .jpg or PDF file. You will be graded using the following rubric: Exceeds

Content (15 points)

All elements are carefully and accurately placed. There are at least five more than the required number of elements included.

Visual Appeal (10 points)

Part II: Your Roman Funeral (30 points) Imagine yourself as a Roman individual, then imagine yourself at your own funeral. Create a narration (written or audio—your choice) of your funeral that includes ceremonies and funeral rites as described in this section. You may include additional information from outside research if you wish. Your goal is to show that you have learned much about the funeral rites and ceremonies of ancient Rome. This section must be at least 300 words in length. In addition, you must include a narration of your journey through the Underworld. This narration will follow the path you have indicated on your map but should also refer to other places, people, etc. in the Underworld as well. Your goal is to show that you have learned much about the Underworld and its contents. This section must be at least 300 words in length. Your narration will include several illustrations such as a tombstone inscription or funerary mask. Be sure to give your illustrations appropriate labels. If you choose to make an audio narration, you can include these in a slideshow presentation to accompany your recording (.mp3 or .wav). If you choose to write your narration, insert these illustrations into your document. This portion of your assignment will be graded according to the general writing rubric included in the Orientation of the course.
