Impact of Race, Culture and Ethnicity On Human Behavior

The student’s culture is very different from ours and they do not keep their children confined to one place as we do here in America. However, it does appear that this family has some issues that need to be addressed before you can make any recommendations for this child or his family. The first thing I would like to do is ask him about how old he is and where he lives now so I can get a better idea of what exactly happened when he ran away from home. If there were other reasons behind why he left Haiti, then it would be important to know those reasons as well so I can make appropriate recommendations based on what I find out during our conference with him and his family members. You should also try to make sure that the boy feels safe at home. He needs to feel comfortable talking about his problems with his parents and other adults in the community who can be supportive during this difficult time in his life.

It is essential to note that the people of Haiti have a culture that is more conservative and in most cases the parents will restrict the levels of interactions between children in diverse communities. Such as tradition can have tremendous effects on the child's psychological development and increase the chances of developing trauma and depressive symptoms in youths (Richman, 2017).

The support that I should suggest for the family would include considering getting the services of a professional counselor such as a psychologist. He will be in a position to offer more professional guidance that can assist the family to overcome the adverse effects associated with the adverse cultural practices and beliefs (Richman, 2017). The family through the services will gain a better understanding of how punishing the child affects his psychological well-being, self-esteem, and confidence which can also affect his performance in school and lead to depression at some stages and hence make appropriate changes in the react to his behaviors.
