Thesis Statement: Domestic violence is a persistent mistreatment by a current or an ex partner against the other for the intention of domination, control, and force.  Domestic violence is a serious offense that has an effect on a lot of people from all races ages, genders, and populations. Domestic violence may consist of acts of physical abuse, psychological abuse as well as sexual abuse. It is a severe, avoidable public health problem, which has an effect on millions of people. In the United States there are millions of victims of domestic violence reported in each and every year whereby about 81% of women and 35% of men are abused by their partner and the report shows that each victim has at least one health-related problem.

I. Introduction

Domestic Violence in the Lesbian and Gay community at an all time high

A. Before it was legal same sex marriages and relationships when consider Domestic Violence was considered assault because they were the same sex

B. Domestic violence is a serious offense that has an effect on a lot of people from all races ages, genders, and populations.

II. Domestic violence may consist of acts of physical abuse, psychological abuse as well as sexual abuse

A. In the United States there are millions of victims of domestic violence reported in each and every year.

B. Whereby about 81% of women and 35% of men are abused by their partner

III. Each victim has at least one health- related problem Domestic violence is associated with many health problems and unfavorable health behavior.

A. Victims of abuse are at major risk of getting high cholesterol, hypertension, strokes, heart attacks, persistent pains, severe irritable bowel disorder and problems related with pregnancy.

B. Head injuries sustained during abuse put the victims at a high risk of getting strokes, seizures, memory loss, dizziness, and blackouts, in addition to having difficulties with concentrating on anything.

IV. Other victims suffer permanent disabilities that results from physical damage inflicted to them.

A. Majority of the victims of domestic violence are abused sexually and this results in the victim contracting Sexually transmitted Diseases such as HIV, cervical cancer and internal injuries.

B. The psychological health effects of domestic violence include higher incidences of depression, condition of posttraumatic trauma and suicide.

V. The victims are in addition more likely to engage themselves in substance abuse and other dangerous behaviors.

A. Female victims of domestic violence go through a broad variety of health issues such as damage in their organs and bones, having miscarriages, complications of pregnancies and birth including babies with low birth weight, exacerbation of persistent illnesses in addition to gynecological issues.

B. The bad effects of domestic violence against women also normally go beyond to an extent of affecting their children too because majority of the children who were brought up in families where there were domestic violence are prone to a broad range of behavioral and psychological turmoil.

VI. Conclusion

A. It alone has an effect on a large percentage of the population in the U.S. either as victims or as eyewitness of mistreatment aimed toward partners or close partners, elders and children.

B. Health systems are supposed to be the main door for discovery, treatment and maintenances for victims of domestic violence. Therefore, domestic violence should be treated as a public health issue.

2. Domestic abuse is as well a housing problem, a human rights problem, a child security problem, a psychological health problem and so on. Domestic violence is a public health issue as dangerous as any microbial disease. The World Health Organization as a public health main concern has identified it globally. (Nakray, 2013). 

3. It alone has an effect on a large percentage of the population in the U.S. either as victims or as eyewitness of mistreatment aimed toward partners or close partners, elders and children. Child maltreatment affects nearly three million children annually and results in the death of more than three children every day (Gbêtowenonmon, 2003).
