TITLE OF THE PAPER 6
Radionuclide Therapy Case Study
Abstract
This should be a paragraph of at least three sentences and no more than six sentences summarizing what the paper is about. Give me a brief summary on why this type of radionuclide therapy was used on the patient. Any associated charts, graphs, or other information may be included in Appendix A at the end of the paper. Save the paper as your last name with a period then your first name and then the title of the paper. Here is an example, ‘Hertenstein.Eric-Therapy Case Study.
Section 1—Defining the Disease
Identify the specific disease state and study to be discussed. Research the disease state presented. Identify and discuss the disease state by answering the following: etiology (causes) of this disease state, typical signs/symptoms, treatment methods, risk vs. benefit of therapy, possible prognosis of a patient with this disorder (M/F & Age).
Introduce me to the disease and the testing to confirm or rule out the disease in typical manner. For more information on how to cite in-text visit the Purdue Owl Writing Lab online at https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/02/ .
Section 2—History
Describe the medical history of a patient with this disease state, emphasizing those areas that may be pertinent to the tentative diagnosis for which the radionuclide therapy has been requested. Explain why these history questions apply to this therapy. Explain why the therapy would be ordered based on the medical history.
Research and discuss any pertinent non-radionuclide therapies or other nuclear medicine exams which may be ordered for a patient with this disease state and explain why this information is beneficial to the physician for proper diagnosis (i.e., labs, x-rays, radiation therapies, bone scans, PET/CT, etc.). Be specific. Discuss the expected test results relative to the tentative diagnoses. Examples of this section would include more citing from the sources from your research.
Section 3—Procedure
Describe the protocol of the therapy procedure being performed. Be sure to include all technical information such as patient prep and why or why not, radiopharmaceutical used and why, dosage given, room preparation and why, whether a scan is acquired and why or why not.
Describe the results of the therapy for this specific patient and the repercussions of these results. Be specific. Explain if therapy was effective for the patient or whether additional treatment was necessary. Give a prognosis for the patient following the therapy.
Section 4 – Interpretation
Summarize the entire case study reflecting on the care of the patient, the type of test ordered, and when the test were ordered. Is there a more efficient way to treat the patient? Were there any other diseases that may have affected the outcome? How can we, as a nuclear medicine technologist, care better for the patient? Was this the best procedure for the patient’s diagnosis? Why or why not?
