Theory of Personality
Personality is an individual’s characteristic pattern, behavior, feeling, and way of thinking. Personality differs for every person (Wang et al., 2020). One individual can be harsh while the other is polite. One can be understanding and ethical, while another is unethical and shady. Thus, every person has a unique personality that defines them. My theory of personality is confident extroverted, intuitive, and feeling judgmental. My personality is characterized by tolerance, charisma, confidence, leadership skills, and judging things and individuals from how I see them. I am observant of my surrounding environment and the individuals I interact with. I often listen to other people despite the difference in our thinking. I am confident in my ideas. I like interacting with other people to gain more insight into things in life.
Observing Personality
Observing my personality or another person’s personality is through words and actions. Often, people can show humbleness or harshness through their words and the physical activities they do. Also, interaction can help identify personality. People tend to show their characteristics when they meet more than once.
Nature or Nurture in Personality Development
Both nature and nurture play a massive role in the development of personality. Nature involves the genes an individual is born with, while nurture is the environmental factor that affects a person. An individual may act as one of the parents due to nature. Also, environmental factors such as the people one interacts with can affect behavior, resulting in a change of personality.
Value of Studying Personality in Myself and Others
Studying personality helps in interactions. Understanding my personality and that of another person with help in conflict resolution. In some cases, personalities may collide, which may be hard to control. Thus, understanding personality will help prevent any conflicts from happening.
Is Personality Changeable?
Personality can change depending on environmental factors. Environmental factors include a harsh living environment, the people one interacts with, and staying indoors. Personality can also shift over time depending on the situation. For instance, individuals brought up in a family with drunkards and fights are likely to have abusive relationships. If an individual interacts with harsh people, they will be brutal. Therefore, it depends on the situation.
Studying personality connects with ethics when trying to understand right and wrong. An individual’s personality will determine their morals and how they perceive different actions and situations (Wang et al., 2020). For instance, a humble person will view fights to be unethical. Therefore, personality helps in ethical development.
