1) Why do some executives refuse to function as Project Sponsors?

The Project Sponsor is the one who takes complete care of the project by acting as the leader to make the project work. Basically, the project sponsor should carry the work by keeping these particular things in mind i.e. planning, organizing and making the team work according to the strategy. This work has the highest amount of risk, which is completely on the project sponsor’s head. The Project Sponsor should manage the work and should make sure that he has the ability to resolve the problems and should have the capacity to overcome and to make sure that there should be no problems in the coming future. The Project Sponsor should have leadership qualities and should willing come forward to take the risks. Not all have the courage to do such work because the work has tremendous pressure, that is the major issue for not accepting the role of being a project sponsor.

2) Can an executive be forced to function as a Project Sponsor?

Yes, any executive can be forced to work as a project sponsor, but that would not be so good for that executive as well as the work. The person should have the ability to lead the team and should willing be able to take the risk which is not quite be possible. But, the work can be carried out without the project sponsor if the team as the ability to work on there own and taking the responsibility of the work which may make the work flow swiftly. Anyways, having a team project sponsor would ease things for the team.

3) Is it right for the sponsor to be the ultimate person responsible for the success or failure of the project?

The role of Project Sponsor is not that easy, as you can see the entire load is on the shoulders of the person. By taking the role into the hands is meaning that you are accepting the

outcome which may be a success or failure. The role does not end there, the person should persuade their team to work hard and make things happen. The Project Sponsor should be committed to their work and come up with strategies and should make their team work in such a way that giving the work to that suitable individual who can carry out the work, the performance should be at peaks of that particular individual. The whole team should work together and make the best positive outcome of the work. Then, the project sponsor will be responsible for the success or failure of the project.

Conclusion:

The Project Sponsor maybe held responsible but, they even get to enjoy the fruits of their work in the form of the project’s success. There might be difficulties but, the key is to overcome it with the effort of the team and make things happen.
