The article is titled ‘The First White President’ and the author is Ta-Nehisi Coates. The article indicates that Trump clinched the presidential seat due to white supremacy. Trump began his campaigns by casting himself as the defender of the whites against the Mexicans who he considered rapists only to be accused later by several ladies as a sexual violator. Whiteness is the major factor in the power that Donald Trump possesses. Trump has further illustrated whiteness by making the legacy of Obama his own. A majority of those who voted for Trump were not white supremacists but felt it was necessary to hand over power to an individual who was. The main argument that Coates is making is that Trump won the last U.S elections due to his ideology of white supremacy. Basically, white supremacy is the belief that white people are superior to other races. I totally agree with the argument because Trump has clearly demonstrated to be racist over the years. He fought to keep blacks out of his apartments and championed against black employees whom he considered lazy. Since Trump was elected in the previous general elections, Immigration became a controversial issue in the United States with Trump recommending strict policies and a wall in the Mexico-U. S border to make it more difficult for Mexicans to get into the country. Trump believes that Mexicans are the source of many vices in U.S and doing away with them is the perfect solution to prevent the effect they have on the society and economy in general. He does not consider the factors that may pushing some of the Mexicans out of Mexico and considers them trouble due to white supremacy (Inwood). The argument is not a derivative of a logical fallacy because there isn’t an error in reasoning depicted by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
