The Final Project / Exam
There are four parts to the Final Project. They included the Word Section, the Excel Section, the PowerPoint Section, and the Oral Presentation.
You will research a topic of your choosing. Preferably, you will choose a topic that is related to a current issue that is related to your major. When choosing your topic, keep in mind that typically, very specific topics are much better than general topics for an assignment like this. When in doubt, ask.
Once you have selected a topic, write a short paper about that topic. Your paper should be around 4 to 5 pages long. It should include a cover page and a work cited page. That will leave around 2 to 3 pages of actual content.
As for the research, you do not need to do serious, academic research for this assignment. If you would like to dive into academic journals and scientific articles, be my guest, but it is absolutely not required. The use of less academic, but still reputable resources is acceptable. When in doubt, remember what those Billionaires use. If it is OK for them, it is OK for this project.
Consider the following three key points when working on this project. Your ability to functionally use Microsoft Office. Your ability to gather reputable information on current topics. Your ability to present your findings and thoughts on that information in an interesting and engaging way through Word and PowerPoint.
For the Microsoft Word section of this report, do not use an academic style of writing. Your report could include bullet points, colors, graphics, pictures, fancy fonts, borders, and tables. Do not just fill pages with boring black text on a white background. Having said that, you are expected you to use Word to properly site your work. This is a good skill to have. If you need a refresher on adding sources and creating a work cited page, pages 112 – 113 in the Word section of the book has this information.
In the Excel Section of your report, try to come up with some data that you can use to create an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet does not need to be large or extensive. You should create two charts in Excel and include those charts in report. Even though you will include those charts in your report, you still must submit your Excel file.
For the PowerPoint Section of your report, create a slideshow about your research. Use some of the themes and techniques we discussed, or any other techniques you may know. Keep in mind that your slides should not have too much text, just focus on the key points of your report, and try to make it look pretty.
Your PowerPoint presentation should be at least 4 slides long. You can make it as long as you want. Just keep in mind that too many slides may be difficult to get through in a short presentation, and may be too much information for the audience.
With that in mind, there is a Presentation requirement. – Onsite Sections only, Online n/a
