The Gendered Contradictions of Globalization WGS 101: Essay 3 Assignment

Due: Sunday, December 9th by 11:59pm

The gendered consequences of globalization are best understood as contradictory. While women have disproportionately suffered the negative effects of globalization, global institutions have expanded opportunities for transnational feminist organizing. Thus, as feminist theorists have noted, women are not merely passive victims of globalization; they are agents, they have agency, and they’re using their agency to organize against powerful global interests.

For this assignment, you will analyze the gendered contradictions of globalization from an intersectional feminist perspective. In other words, you should explain why and how, from a feminist perspective, globalization is contradictory. Your essay must define globalization, discuss three aspects of globalization that have negatively impacted women’s life, and examine the emergence of transnational feminist organizing in relation to globalization.

The analysis you develop (including all definitions) must be drawn from course readings. To that end, your essay must include quotations from a minimum of 4 different readings assigned between 10/29 and 12/5.

Requirements: Essays must cite at least 4 different readings assigned between 10/29 and 12/5; sources must be cited in the text (a list of works cited is not necessary); essays must be 5 full pages (double space & 1 inch margins) and pages should be numbered

Due Date: Sunday, December 9th by 11:59pm via Blackboard; 5 points will be deducted each day thereafter; if you would like comments on one draft of your essay, email it to me no later than Thursday, December 6th
