No, I would not rent out the church hall. This is because the play has some ethical issues which this being a church property would not look good. The church should be the one condemning unethical things and bringing positive change and not to give room for things that will have negative impact to the audience.

There are some scenes that would make me not rent out the hall. In the first Act there is a point where Berger would be required to remove his trouser to show a loincloth, this is not a good scene for the audience. The play also has a lot of nude acts and drug content which would make it look like the church by renting out the hall agreed to the various teachings it seemed to bring across to the audience. It would also portray the church as not to have some respect for the country as in the play the actors show some lack of reverence of the American Flag.

The play also portrays some kind of lack of obedience and respect for the parents. This is evident as Berger’s friends’ shows rebellion to their parents. If children would be part of the audience the teaching they would get would be to rebel against their parents.

In summary the play has more negative teachings than the positive ones. The fact that the hall belongs to the church means that, it should reflect a good picture of what the church teaches. Renting the hall for such a play would paint a bad image of the church as the themes brought out are actually evil and would bring controversies to the audience
