It is evident that the aspect of living a dignified life is defined by a number of aspects such as the relationship that with our families, communities and also the social ideologies in existence. From this it is evident that for one to live a dignified life, he or she should be able to prove this to other members of the society. A dignified life is earned and thus it cannot be described as a status that one is born with. The characters of the film Whale Rider and 12 Years a Slave have been able to prove this particular point in the best manner possible. Moreover, it is also clear that these films have also been able to clearly bring out ideological positions presented in the movie. The director of the movie was able to direct this movie in a way that the various aspects of culture may hinder one from achieving his or her own success. Therefore, one can Cleary identify the fact that the author was able to communicate effectively to the target audience and thus making this genre applicable in this case (Lance, 2017).

There are a number of ideological positions presented in the movie ‘Whale Rider’ and ‘Eight Years a Slave’. To start with in the film ‘Whale Rider’ the aspect of segregation has been represented in the best manner possible. This movie, has been able to display how the aspect of male chauvinism has been dominating over the years and how it has affected the progress of women in the society. From this movie it is evident that the Whangara people have always followed traditions and for this case, having a female heir seems to be out of door. It is evident that Koro is disappointment that he will have a female as an heir and due to this he does not engage a lot with her grandchild. However, Koro’s granddaughter Api believes that she has what it takes and she has put her life on stake in order to prove her grandfather wrong. From this movie it is clear that Api has to prove the community and family members wrong in order to obtain the dignified life that she deserves. Therefore, she has to fight the traditions that have governed her community and also fight the grandfather in order to achieve her rightful place in the community. In interpellation in this community is that women have no place in leadership and thus they should engage in other activities.

The Whale Rider can be defined as being a drama genre film based on a novel, this film has been able to clearly bring out the interpellation segregation. To be specific the chief of this particular tribe had the belief that the first grandchild would be a boy and thus become the automatic heir of the throne. However, to his disappoint the child that was born was a girl and the chief developed resentment towards this child, the resentment towards this child brought out the aspect of segregation in this given film and thus leading to the development of the various themes presented in this film. In the Whale Rider film it is clearly that there exist a form of conflict between the various genders from the start of the film it is evident that the idea of gender dominance is evident to start with it is evident that this particular community holds the values of male dominance. It is evident that Koro Apirana bases his ideologies on male superiority, however it is evident that his wife has the ability to make more sound decisions than the husband. From this film it is evident that Koro Apirana is viewed as a demigod and most of his aspects give way to the development to the aspect that he is a male chauvinist. From this movie it is evident that Koro Apirana is a traditionalist and that he does not believe in the aspect of change. Having a girl as a grandchild makes him feel bad and he does not accept the child, however, he is not aware that his descendant will have a political influence later on. In this particular film it is evident that the aspect of gender segregation is evident the moment that Koro Apirana haves a girl as a grandchild. Due to this he develops hatred towards this child and he promises himself that he will never become engaged on any activities involving this grandchild (Hokowhitu, 2007). The above explanation shows that Api had to work hard in order to ensure that she overcame all the setbacks that she was enduring and thus being able to obtain a dignified life.

12 Years a Slave can be defined as a drama film that bases its aspect on a narrative memoir written in 1853, the film has been able to depict the aspect of slavery in the best manner possible. From this movie it is evident that the slaves are denied the choice to live a dignified life and also enjoy the American dream. The movie clearly depicts the aspect that who one to live a dignified life he or she should be able to fight and stand fall in order to achieve this aspect. Additionally, the film has also been able to show the various problems associated with slavery and how these problems brought about the aspect of racial segregation. The movie also helps to share with the audience the realism associated with slavery, from the movie the audience are able to have a better understanding of this aspect of slavery. Therefore, it is evident that the setting of this movie has helped in portraying the aspect of slavery and its effect. It is also clear that the film 12 years a slave also portrays a number of instances that help to bring out the aspect of segregation. From this specific realism on the aspect of slavery is clearly brought out. From the film it is clear that the aspect of slavery where one precise group of people is subjected to the aspect of slavery.

From this film it is evident that the black Americans were derived their various freedoms due to the aspect of slavery. The genre used by the director was the best fit application since it was able to highlight the aspect of slavery and the interpellation of slavery in a clear manner and thus addressing the target audience in the best way possible. From this actual movie it is evident that the aspect of discrimination against women is prominent. For instance, it is evident that one of the plantation owners in this movie views the wife as an object and he does not put into consideration the advice offered by the wife. He discriminates the wife in front of the slaves. Moreover the aspect of human trafficking is also prevalent in this movie. This exact aspect of human trafficking helps to bring out the fact that there are people who view themselves better when compared to other people. This aspect can be defined as one of the major causes of segregation in this particular film. Therefore, it is evident from this film that the aspect of slavery helped to bring out the aspect that there are certain people who are superior when compared to others and thus promoting the aspect of segregation. From this film it is evident that slaves where considered as a private property and thus they had no method of expressing their various grievances and rights. Therefore it is clearly that the aspect of segregation has been brought out in a realism manner. (Hoang, 2017).

In conclusion, it is evident that the movies have been able to clearly bring out the aspect of segregation. Moreover, the films have also been able to show how the aspect of segregation hindered the aspect of development and how this aspect was the cause of diminished development. Furthermore, the movies have also been able to show that a dignified life can only be achieved through struggles and hard work. For us to be who we are supposed to be in life we should be willing to keep up a spirited fight that will help the community to know that we are not who they think we are but we have our own greatness inside us.
