Event Chosen and its Significance

The event I chose for this assignment is the assassination of the 35th American President, JF Kennedy. The event took place on Nov. 22 1963 in Dallas Texas as the president embarked on a series of fund raising perceived as a campaign strategy. In the vehicle was the first lady, Jackeline Kennedy. Reports also indicated that the vice president and the Governor for Texas were in the motorcade too. Although the truth about the assassination is marred with numerous conspiracy theories, two of them are widely accepted. One group claim that the president was killed by parties linked to anti-Castrol group which could have used Lee Harvey Oswald. A second faction believes that the many conflicting reports on the event point to the government’s involvement in the event. The subsequent effects would see the election of President Lyndon Johnson who later established civil rights and the respect for all races, although loathed by the southerners.

Secondary Sources

For further research on this subject, I would use two articles that give different angles to the event. First, I would use an article by Salgado and Prieto. The two historical researchers suggested that the death of the 35th president has to be looked through the angle of the social political circumstances of America at the time of the event (Salgado & Prieto, 2017).

Secondly, I would rely on a study by Ponterotto which was published in 2017. The scholar focuses on the effects of the president’s assassination on the subsequent 1964 election where the ground laid by the assassinated president coupled with the national mourning culminated in Lyndon’s election (Ponterotto, 2017).

To further understand this event I would raise the question- what were the political effects of the assassination of JF Kennedy on the American political terrain?
