6.1 Applying Zig ZIglar’s Writings to Self: (Document answers as instructed.)

Look over and refer only to PPT-6a. Select and cite 2-3 teachings where you most need to improve and tell how any lack of that quality is currently affecting your success personally, rationally, and/or vocationally. Specifically explain how you can apply Ziglar’s success principles from the PPT-6a to change those 2-3 areas that need improvement.

Zig Ziglar’s motivational speeches and books center on the concept of assisting individuals in cultivating a constructive outlook, a robust work ethic, and a sense of purpose in their own life. Setting goals, maintaining a good attitude, and staying motivated are the three aspects of this instruction that I believe I need to work on the most after going through PPT-6a. I am now deficient in these areas, and as a result, they are having an adverse effect on my success in my personal life, in my relationships, and in my professional life.

To begin, my failure to create goals has had a negative impact on the amount of success I’ve had in both my personal and professional lives. My tendency to procrastinate, lack of motivation, and lack of focus are all things that I find myself doing often. As a direct consequence of this, I have had a hard time accomplishing the goals I set for myself. In order to solve this issue, I may put Ziglar’s motivating success concepts into practice by establishing objectives for myself. These goals will be precise, measurable, attainable, relevant, and have a deadline attached to them. This will not only provide me with a distinct direction and concentration, but it will also assist me in maintaining my motivation and holding myself responsible for my activities.

Second, my inability to maintain a cheerful attitude has had an impact on the interactions. I am with other people. My propensity to dwell on the unfavorable elements of circumstances and others has, as a result, contributed to disagreements and misunderstandings. I can alter this by using Ziglar’s principles of motivating success by engaging in positive self-talk, cultivating an attitude of appreciation, and visualizing achievement. This will assist me in shifting my viewpoint and finding the positive qualities in both circumstances and individuals. My ability to create relationships and communicate effectively will also increase as a result.

Lastly, my lack of drive has caused me to be less successful in my professional life. At work, I often experience a lack of motivation and disengagement, both of which have contributed to a decline in my productivity and performance. In order to solve this issue, I may put Ziglar’s motivating success ideas to use by discovering my “why,” establishing objectives that are relevant to me, and engaging in self-care practices. My general job happiness and performance will increase as a result of this, as well as my ability to discover a purpose and a passion in the work I do (Ziglar, 2006).

Rather than making a general statement, answer the question as instructed.

Look over and refer only to the assigned PPT. Select and cite 2-3 teachings, that will help with what you most need to improve. Under each quote or paraphrase, state your response. Tell how any lack of that quality or practice is currently affecting your personal, relational, and/or vocational success. Specifically explain how you can apply each of your selected Ziglar’s principles to improve your motivation toward success in whatever you need or desire. Answer in 1 or more pages.

6.2 Self-Evaluation Analysis: (Documented cited answers as instructed.)

Ponder your Self Evaluation question 6 (Job Related Contentment & Success?). Refer only to supplement PPT-6b and select 2 or more citations under Food for Thought that mostly relate to you and can help you, directly or indirectly for the past, present, and/or future. Specifically explain how or why your selections can positively improve your effectiveness.

Zig Ziglar’s This part is not about Ziglar, but just the above PPT. inspirational speeches stress the value of having a good outlook, a solid work ethic, and a clear goal in life. In order to put these principles into practice in my personal and professional life, I must work to strengthen the following three areas: goal setting, outlook, and drive. At the moment, I’m deficient in these places, and it’s hindering my progress in several ways.

The maxim “the greatest preparation for tomorrow is doing your best now” by Jackson Brown Jr. may help me overcome my failure to make goals. This saying serves as a constant reminder that my present choices will have lasting effects on my future results. I may offer myself focus and direction by making SMART objectives that are precise, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. This will keep me on track, force me to take responsibility for my actions, and increase the likelihood that I’ll reach my goals (Hedgpeth, 2019). Include the slide page number.

I may change my negative outlook by following the advice of “pray for a bountiful harvest but keep on plowing,” which was written by an anonymous source. This saying serves as a constant reminder that hard work and dedication are necessary for achievement. Self-talk, appreciation, and visualization have all helped me shift my outlook, and find the good in otherwise discouraging circumstances and people. In the long run, this will help me achieve my goals by enhancing my ability to communicate and form meaningful connections with others.

Finding my why, making meaningful objectives, and continuously taking action are all ways I might use the aforementioned concepts to overcome my lack of motivation. Because of this, I will be able to find meaning in my job and maintain my enthusiasm for it even when things become challenging. Finally, by putting these inspirational success concepts into practice, I will be able to advance in both my personal and professional life.

6.3 Textbook Related Questions from Covey’s Habit 5:

(Do not restate previous answers, but using the same example is acceptable.)

a. Define “Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood”. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, how would you rate yourself as doing Habit 5: (1.) In your personal life and (2.) At or in your vocation.

The fifth habit in Stephen Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” is “Seek First to understand, then to be understood” (Covey, 2020). This practice highlights the significance of attentive listening and sympathetic discourse. This implies we should make an attempt to see things from the other person’s point of view before we insist they see things our way. I’d give myself an 8 on the 1-10 scale for using Habit 5 in my everyday life, and a 7 for using it professionally.

b. Give an example of home, family, or friends where and how you need and can apply Habit 5 for a better outcome. What do you expect the result would be?

In my own life, I have a buddy who often seeks my counsel on her romantic predicaments. It’s difficult for me to contribute to the discussion where she starts talking too much and takes the lead. By paying close attention, asking her clarifying questions, and briefly summarizing her ideas, I may demonstrate that I have grasped her point of view and I am using Habit 5 to my advantage. My aim is that by doing this, we can strengthen our friendship and communicate better.

c. Give an example at or of your work where and how you need and can apply Habit 5 for a better outcome. What do you expect the result would be?

In my line of work, I often collaborate with team members from other departments, each of which has its own set of objectives and priorities. To put habit 5 into practice, I may start by asking questions to better understand their situation rather than rushing to solve it. One way to do this would be to have more one-on-one conversations with them, during which you would ask them questions and pay close attention to their answers. In doing so, I anticipate fostering more pleasant and fruitful interactions with coworkers.

d. What other main thing did you take away from Habit 5 that if applied would improve your effectiveness? Give a specific life example and explain how you could make more positive changes with this improvement.

The significance of empathy in conversation is emphasized as a major message from Habit 5. When we try to see things from another person’s point of view, we get insight into their wants, fears, and interests. This has the potential to improve communication and teamwork. In my romantic relationship, for instance, I may be more successful if I often engage in acts of empathy with my spouse. Instead of taking their comments personally, I may attempt to see things from their point of view and come up with a compromise that satisfies us both.

e. Considering your answers above, what would be your greatest challenge to maintaining long term success by following Habit 5?

The greatest obstacle to long-term success with Habit 5 is the propensity to go back to previous behaviors. When we have a strong opinion about anything, it’s simple to let that view consume us. In order to triumph over this obstacle, I need to make a concerted effort to frequently engage in Habit 5. In order to do this, I may need to establish reminders, ask for input from others, and take periodic stock of my own communication patterns.

So that I know that you are reading the text, make reference to it followed by your comments.
