Assignment: I. Attend a local, regional or national live theatrical stage production.

The production may be a stage adaptation of Children’s Literature

or any other kind of live musical or play.

II. Attach a program and ticket stub to your paper (identifying the performance venue).

III. Write a review, critique and summary of the production.

IV. Identify elements of the production that are applicable to

Oral Interpretation based upon Theatre 311 course content.

A. The review section of your paper should summarize the following:

1) a synopsis of the plot of the play/musical.

2) Whether or not this production is an adaptation of a piece of

Children’s Literature. If so, which one?

3) Discuss the age level you would consider the play to be most appropriate for and why.

B. The critique section of your paper will deal with how effectively, in

your opinion, this production was accomplished.

1) Discuss the individual and ensemble performances.

a. Vocal usage and physical performance skills

b. Characterization and believability

2) Comment on any production elements present; did they add to

or detract from the performances?

C. The summary section of your paper should discuss the following:

1) What was your overall impression of this experience?

2) If children were present, how did they respond throughout

the performance?

3) How did this experience impact your approach to Oral

Interpretation and your own future performance presentations?

addressed in an honest and astute manner.

12-13 Paper is well written, a few errors may be present, but overall effort is above-average.

10-11 Paper is average; topics are not fully understood or addressed.
