The Assignment
Write a textual analysis of “Fixed Menu” by Kevin Pang
Criteria for Evaluation:
A successful textual analysis will include:
· An introduction that effectively summarizes the personal narrative for an unfamiliar reader and ends with an analytical thesis statement.
· An analytical thesis statement that makes a claim about 1) how the author achieves a certain effect on/make an argument to the reader OR 2) a less obvious (implicit) aspect of the reading.
· Effective use of evidence (i.e. quotations and details) from the course reading that support the analytical thesis statement; evidence from the essay should not only be presented but also explained and interpreted for the reader.
· A logical organization and use of clear topic sentences and transitions; the writer should carefully guide the reader through the analysis, and it should be clear to the reader how each body paragraph connects back to the writer’s analytical thesis statement.
· Correct use of MLA citation style i.e. correct formatting, attributions of quotations, and use of in-text citations for quotations.
· Clear language use i.e. correct syntax and word choice.
