Week one term 4 Week activities
On Monday, I was working with the Outreach advocate, Latosha Powers. We met with three clients for their monthly CM meeting but none of the clients were able to met due to personal issues. Latosha is very lenient with her clients so I try to follow suit. One of the client’s grandmother is dying so I was sure to show her as much empathy as possible because deaths in a families are not fun at all. We also was working together to put a survey for the ladies to start mandatory group sessions. We wanted to see which topics the ladies would like to discuss during group, which is very interesting. On Tuesday (3/22), I met with two of Latosha’s clients for their monthly CM meeting; both meetings turned out well. With the first client, we discussed a financial plan because she will be exiting out the rapid program really soon. We think it is best for the client to have a budget plan for the next few months. The second client was getting exited for the program because this month was her last month. I gave the client as much motivation I could and reminded her to stay on her toes for herself and her children. On Thursday (3/23), I had to do two CM meetings and one of the clients announced she was pregnant, which is exciting. I was so happy for her. This week was a great week back for me; I was happy to be back at work. It was a very short week for me because I was not feeling well this week.
Values and Ethical Practice
A core value that was implemented in week one was service and dignity & worth of a person. With the survey, discussing different topics will make the ladies feel empowered and making their opinions matter. I feel like I’m going to help the ladies fulfill the empty pieces in their lives.
Critical Thinking and Professional Knowledge
I used my critical thinking skills by figuring out which topics are good topics to discuss in the group for the ladies. I wanted to be sure it is appropriate, follows the code of ethics, and comfortable for the clients. I didn’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable. I thought of safety skills, coping skills, and ways to boost confidence. I really hope the ladies enjoy having group since it is mandatory.
Week activities week 2 term 4
On Tuesday (3/28), I met with one of Latosha’ clients. We did a monthly CM meeting and everything went good. It wasn’t much to do Tuesday but busy work. On Wednesday (3/29), I did two intakes for new rapid clients and one monthly CM meeting with a current rapid client. One of the ladies was twenty-years-old, and I really feel for her due to her being two years younger than me; It is so sad to see young women have to go through domestic violence. One of the ladies abuser was apart a gang and currently out of prison on parole; the client is afraid for her life. For odd reason, she did not want to relocate and it worried me but I couldn’t do anything but respect the client’s decision. On Thursday (3/30), Latosha and I worked together to finish the survey we started last week and we got some great responses from the ladies. I can’t wait to start the group session with the ladies in April; I can feel the topics will be very interesting to discuss and see their outlook on things. I will even add games into the session to make it fun and make the ladies want to come back to each session. Something I have been noticing that the clients tend to state the same goals every month. I tried to think of different ways to make the client think about different goals instead of repeating the same goals each month. On Friday (3/31), I was helping out in the shelter. One of the clients announced to me that she got her driver’s license today and she was super excited. I was sure that she knew I was proud of her and that is a very big accomplishment, no matter of her age. This was my first time speaking to this client because I really don’t come inside the shelter often due to me doing outreach case management. This week was such a busy week and I loved that.
Values and Ethical Practice
Core values that were implemented in week two are service, integrity, and competency one & seven. Service was implemented by creating the survey for the upcoming group sessions. This survey assists in obtaining information on social trends so that it can monitor changes to clients' living conditions and health. Integrity and competency one was implemented because I tend to keep things professional within my agency and do the right thing. Competency seven was implemented by meeting with the clients, making their goal action plans, and assisting with all of their needs.
Critical Thinking and Professional Knowledge
I used my critical thinking skills by figuring out different ways I can get the clients to think about new short term goals instead of listing the same goal or long term goals. The clients are always stating goals that honestly couldn’t be accomplished in a month. For example, a client stated she wants to start saving money but she do not have employment. I suggested for her to list finding employment first before trying to save money that she doesn’t have just yet. I also thought of questions like “what do you feel like you need to change within a month” or “ what is something you feel you are lacking in.” I just want the clients to start thinking outside of the box and create realistic goals for themselves.
Week activities week 3 term 4
This week the outreach advocate, Latosha, was out due to her having to study for an exam and she left me list of duties to complete while she is out. On Tuesday (4/4), I had to contact some clients to meet for success story. Some of the clients did not reply, which is fine because I understand they are regular, busy lives to tend to. I also was helping out in the shelter with the shelter advocate, Kierra, it wasn’t much to the evening and the shelter is at max capacity so they aren’t accepting anymore residents as of now. On Wednesday (4/5), I met with two clients for their success stories and one new rapid client to do a safety plan and go over the rules in rapid. I can really say listening to the ladies stories and hearing what they went through is truly sad; these ladies are pretty strong and very inspiring. I always tell these ladies somebody else is going through what you went, and your story can motivate them in many ways. Learning a sense of independence is very important for domestic violence victims. On Thursday (4/6), I did another success stories and a psychosocial assessment that was assigned by my field instructor. The other interns and I was partner with one of the residents at the shelter and we were to do a assessment with them; I had to do some research on a psychosocial assessment to be sure I am asking the appropriate questions. The residents aren’t allowed to leave their children so the client had to bring her child with her during the assessment. When there were questions regarding the abuse, the client advised she did not feel comfortable with speaking on the situation in front of her baby. I respected her decision and turn the conversation into a positive aspect. On Saturday (4/8), I met with one client to do an success story; this client does trust me a lot and always willing to let me help her, which I really enjoy. I also was assisting Latosha with catching up on her client information to put into case worthy. This week has been a really crazy week but I pushed through.
Values and Ethical Practice
This week I used my ethical practices by reporting to my supervisor instead of confronting my peers about situation that happen in the shelter; I am very big on professional practice. I also implemented dignity and worth of the person, service, competency 1 and 7 within my weekly activities.
Critical Thinking and Professional Knowledge
I used my critical thinking this week by doing research on a psychosocial assessment. I wanted to be sure I was asking the appropriate questions and wanted the client to feel comfortable. I never had to do one of these before so I was super excited to do research upon it.
Week activities week 4 term 4
On Monday (4/10), I met with four of the case manager, Latosha, clients for their monthly CM meeting. The meetings were great and it’s always a pleasure to meet with the clients. Monday was very busy because I had to upload a lot of case notes in case worthy because the clients had a lot of updates due to them missing their meetings. One of the clients grandmother just passed so she did have a lot of life updates and I was sure to send condolences to her and her family. On Wednesday (4/12), I was helping out in the shelter with the SA, Kierra, and also I made a flyer for the upcoming group sessions that are about to start for outreach clients. This was my first time having to do a flyer for an event so I had to do some research to make the flyer perfect and appropriate for the topic self care On Friday (4/14), I was helping out in the shelter for a few hours with the shelter advocate, Kierra, we really don’t have much to do on Friday’s. On Saturday (4/15), I was with the Case manager, Latosha, all day. We did a in person home visits with one of my favorite clients. The client was telling me a few weeks ago, how she hated her job and it was so hard. Now the client has a new job which pays for and more convenient with her schedule. I was so happy and excited for her. After we came back from the home visits, I was just doing busy work for Latosha like updating case notes in case worthy.
Values and Ethical Practice
A core value that we implemented in week 4 was service and Competency 6 & 7. By making that flyer, it implements service because I am giving the clients a chance to come to a group session to discuss important self care tips. I always implement competency 6 & 7 when I am meeting with the clients for their monthly meetings.
Critical Thinking and Professional Knowledge
I used my critical thinking this week by finding different ways to put together a flyer. I never had to put a flyer together so I had to do some research to find some free applications to complete the flyer one. This assignment was so exciting to me.
