Disseminating the results of our projects with other nurses is essential and can be done via a nursing or healthcare conference or by writing an article for a journal. Conferences are critical to keeping up to date with the latest developments in knowledge and evidence-based practice (De Juan Pardo et al., 2021). Attending conferences is also beneficial for nurses because they get the opportunity to engage with other nurses in their related fields. Because the goal of my project is to reduce the incidents of healthcare-acquired infections, the conference that would be most appropriate would be the “International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases 2022”. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) hosts this conference which brings more than 1500 public health professionals to encourage the exchange of information about the emergence, spread, and control of infectious diseases (CDC, 2022).

Another way of disseminating the results of our projects is through publication. Various journals interest me and target my intended audience; nurses. The American Journal of Nursing (AJN) is evidence-based and peer-reviewed. This journal is the oldest and most honored broad-based nursing journal (AJN, 2020). I have been reading this journal since I began my nursing career, and one can find various topics related to infection control.

Presenting the capstone information to a journal and conference will be important. The journal of choice would be the “Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN)” journal. This is the best option to disseminate my new knowledge because the main audience of this journal is medical-surgical nurses. This journal offers nurses the ability to received evidence-based practice and new education (AMSN, 2022). Thus, this would be the perfect place for nurses to receive information on best practice regarding ambulating post-operative patients. The nursing conference that would be most appropriate for my project would be the “2023 WIN Conference.” This conference focuses on the use of new technology with regards to evidence-based research (Western Institute of Nursing, 2022). This conference would be best because the discussion of the lift device regarding early mobility could be beneficial for other nurses to acquire. Not all hospitals have this technology, but with collaboration, it may be possible for them to obtain it. Both the journal and the conference will be helpful in spreading the new knowledge obtained in this project.

Conferences offer the opportunity to network with other nursing professionals who are interested in advancing research and the nursing profession. An example of a healthcare conference held annually is the Western Institute of Nursing. Each year the conference has a different location and topic. For example, in April 2022 the conference was in Portland, Oregon and titled: Creating a Nursing Force for Change. The 2023 conference will be in Tucson, AZ and titled: Leveraging Technology to Advance Nursing and Equity in Research, Practice, and Education. This helps guide presenters in what types of articles to submit. Highly educated and experienced nurses who are professors at some of the most prestigious nursing schools in the Country are presenters at the conference. Attending and submitting in such gatherings works toward the common goal of advancing nursing practice (Velasquez, n.d). The engagement and inspiration that nursing professionals participate in builds are more motivated nursing workforce (Velasquez, n.d). Many MSN and DNP/PHD students will submit their work to these types of conferences. The need for nurses to develop leadership capacity has been recog- nized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN, 2008), and it is generally agreed that this process should begin during their university training (De Juan Pardo, 2021). Learning this makes me realize that any nurse can participate in research sharing if they know the benefits and resources to do so.

Professional Journals provide a commonplace for nurses and other healthcare professionals to share information on latest trends in research and practice. The American Journal of Nursing’s mission is to promote excellence in nursing and health care through the dissemination of evidence-based, peer-reviewed clinical information and original research (AJN, 2020). AJN welcomes submissions of evidence-based clinical application papers and descriptions of best clinical practices, original research and QI reports, case studies, narratives, commentaries, and other manuscripts on a variety of clinical and professional topics (AJN, 2020). The journal also welcomes submissions for its various departments and columns, including artwork and poetry that is relevant to nursing or health care (AJN, 2020). The AJN takes submissions from all areas of healthcare. Since my project has a focus on SBAR, it can be relevant to many areas of nursing practice. Therefore, a Journal like AJN is a good place to disseminate information. The Journal also is afflicted with many nursing research databases.

Evidence-Based Practice is a benchmark in the nursing profession as it promotes continual improvements in the delivery of professional patient-centered care (Chien, 2019). The incorporation of evidence-based practice in the role of a BSN is an essential component to promote a strong well-rounded nursing leader to help improve patient outcomes. Two ways I can help promote this is by using evidence-based practices in my current everyday role as a nurse. Another way is to join a healthcare committee or organization within my healthcare facility. According to Chien (2019), "The Journal of Nursing Research must provide an open forum for all kinds of research in order to help bridge the gap between research-generated evidence and clinical nursing practice and education". One of the obstacles I may face is nurses not wanting to practice the new evidence-based practices which could affect the patient's healthcare outcome. The steps I will take will be to advance my educational level further to obtain my MSN. I could also suggest for my fellow peers to advance their educational level further to help make the necessary changes for the patient's healthcare outcomes.

Healthcare organizations across the country are implementing evidence-based practice models of care to standardize and provide more reliable, high-quality care for patients. According to Mojtaba et al., "the risk of post-discharge fall-related injury is increased among older hospitalized people with an increased fall risk, especially those who had previous falls or unsafe gait" (2018). Nursing research continues to be a growing field. By participating in nursing research opportunities, nurse builds skills that will enable them to work in many different areas of healthcare. I will continue to integrate evidence into my practice and encourage it within my work environment by educating my coworker and educating patients. Education and awareness are the most powerful tools a person can use to implement the quality practice in the health care environment. Working on the neuroscience floor, I have seen many preventable falls and devastating effects, such as severe injuries and death. After learning from all evidence-based research, I will be disseminating my plan for pre-discharge education will be a high priority. The biggest obstacle I could ever challenge is the lack of staffing, and it is unavoidable at his time when globally all health care facilities are facing issues. I would take a step to teach my coworkers to prioritize and organize time management so we can prevent falls even in a shortage of staffing. I propose that my organization offer us more Avasys cameras to observe our patients and their patients of activities and learn how to plan fall prevention. Involving patients' family members in teaching while giving patient care is the best solution to teach them.

With my current position as an infusion nurse in a small clinic, there are not many practices that are evidence based, other than the actual procedure itself. Washing my hands, maintaining sterile technique when accessing ports, and PIV insertion practices. Most of my other duties during my day are clerical such as answering calls, scheduling follow-up visits, submitting prior authorizations, and faxing correspondences to different pharmacies/drug companies. I do always take the opportunity to education my patients on different things, so I need to ensure that the information I share is up-to-date. Another thing I can do is keep up-to-date with PIV and mediport access practices, as those can change. I do have some patients who require their IV to stay in for more than one day at time, so I need to stay up-to-date with the EBP for decreasing infection risk with leaving a PIV for multiple days. I honestly do not have plan, because I'm limited on EBP in my setting. Now, if i was working at the hospital, I would have plenty of ideas and ways to plan and make steps. I will most certainly work on implementing my project, because I can see that it would greatly positively impact some of these patients. The patients I have that rarely have flares, and minimal lesions are the ones who eat healthy, exercise, and overall manager their MS and other co-morbities well. The ones who do have flares or break-throughs are the ones who eat terribly, smoke, laying around, and do not manager their overall health.
