Teen Girl Dies After Fight in Bathroom of Delaware High School

A 16-year-old Delaware girl was killed Thursday morning after a ght in the
bathroom of her high school.
Wilmington Police con rm to PEOPLE that Amy Inita Joyner-Francis began
ghting with another student before classes began for the day at Howard

High School of Technology. At some point, at least two other girls jumped the
victim. A witness told WPVI that Joyner-Francis hit her head against the sink,
and multiple outlets have reported that the ght began over a boy.
The school called 911. Medics performed CPR on Joyner-Francis. She was
airlifted to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, where she was pronounced
dead from her injuries.

The sudden death has sent shockwaves throughout the community. “I’m so
upset that the young lady lost her life today. Things like this shouldn’t
happen,” Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams told reporters in a press
conference. “My heart bleeds for the family, the kids that go to this school,
administrators and our city.”
“It is a tragic day for Howard High School,” principal Stanley Spoor told
reporters. “Our hearts go out to the family.”
Two students are being questioned by Wilmington police, but no charges
have yet been led. In a press conference, Wilmington Police Chief Bobby
Cunningham told reporters that he doesn’t believe any weapons were used.
A police spokesperson tells PEOPLE that an autopsy has been scheduled to
determine the cause of death.
