Section 1: Definitions

What does this teaching method do? Personal/Original definition:

What does this teaching method do? Definition quoted from a source:

Pedagogy is the method an individual (teacher, paraprofessional, parent, coach, babysitter, etc.) teaches. Pedagogy includes the methods, strategies, activities, and actions an individual uses to relay introduce, practice, and commit to long term memory needed concepts to a learner.

Pedagogical content knowledge as defined by Shulman (1987) represents the blending of content and pedagogy into an understanding of how particular topics, problems, or issues are organized, represented, ….adapted …and represented for instruction. Pedagogical content knowledge is the category most likely to distinguish the understanding of the content specialist from that of the pedagogue.” (p. 8)

Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy? I wanted to understand what the word meant. The master teacher presented the math lesson using

exceptional pedagogy.

Commented [EH1]: Because I used this word for a sample, you may not include this word in your assignment.

Commented [EH2]: The purpose of this section is to allow you to identify what disability area(s) your term deals with and/or what teaching strategy could benefit

Commented [EH3]: This should be an academic source. DO NOT USE Wikipedia, Webster’s, or a random website. Websites with an extension of .org are acceptable as is your textbook. In APA scholarly papers, it is always better to use sources that are peer-reviewed, scholarly publications rather than random websites found from Google. Many times Websites that appear to be important and scholarly can be deceiving because they do not rely on APA scholarship for their credibility. Even though they reveal the author and perhaps a publication date, they should be suspect unless verified. Many times websites that look scholarly offer biased information supporting a specific agenda, which is difficult to detect. If they do not list sources revealing where their information emanates from, if the author does not have an earned doctorate, or if the information looks as if it is only published on the website, you should be very suspicious. Instead, your resources should be from quality, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal sources, with a specific author listed and a publication date. When writing formal papers at the graduate level, generic websites should always be avoided.

Commented [EH4]: Noticed I removed the highlighted text.

Commented [EH5]: This is placed in a block quote because it is more than 40 words. To do the indent feature within a table, select the ctrl key and then press the tab key.

Commented [EH6]: Be sure to place the number of words in each section and remove the highlighted line.

If you highlight text in word it will give you the number of words in the bottom ribbon. (See mid week announcement).

Commented [EH7]: Because this was a definition and not a teaching method this section does not apply.

Section 4: Analysis and Implementation In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.

Currently, there is a continued debate if pedagogy and content knowledge should be considered as one term or concept. Segall (2004) described the specifics of this ongoing discussing in her article Revisiting pedagogical content knowledge: The pedagogy of content/the content of pedagogy. Discuss this debate and or the importance of the term.

Word Count_____ /150

How can I remember?

I will remember this term by linking the words Pedagogy and “pet”. I can remember that pedagogy deals with teaching because of the term “teacher’s pet”. I know it might be strange but it works for me.

Word Count 37/30

Commented [EH8]: I included a graphic that I created on the free site https://bubbl.us. It was easy to do. However, you can insert a .jpg picture taken with your phone of a hand drawn graphic. The graphic should be neat even though hand drawn / written.

Commented [EH9]: You will notice I did not use any of these references in my text. I discovered these while conducting research on my term. This is just information that I wanted to make a note of if I wanted more information.

Commented [EH10]: Note when using references, the “cite” feature on Liberty’s databases rarely works. You are better of formatting it yourself.

Commented [EH11]: Neither of these articles had doi’s in the liberty database. However, when I looked at the journal websites doi’s were listed.
