The purpose of a learning standard and the critical components of a learning objective

The purpose of learning standards is to put a guideline for the consideration of the student learning capacity based on their age and thus a determination of their ability to grasp certain concepts at a certain level (Lea, 2013). These standards develop the guideline for which assessment of the mental capacity of a child and their overall growth can be monitored and developed.  On the other hand, the objective is the approach towards achieving the standards and thus implementation methodology as well as the challenge posed in order to fulfill the expected standard of measure.

The definition of this two brings the focus of formative assessment during teaching as it relies on the outcome and development of goals relying on meeting this outcome. In this way, the defined objective clarifies the path taken towards meeting the object and thus delineates the way outcome would be measured and thus the determination of it has been met (Greenstein, 2010).

Select a grade level standard and design two learning objectives AND a way to assess students FOR learning for each objective.

There are core standards taken in consideration for Grade 2 in mathematics is that they should be able to recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. One of the objectives is that at the end of the lesson, students should be able to differentiate the core value that makes up a triangle, pentagon, octagon, square, cubes, and other main shapes. The second objective is that the student will be able to draw a different common object and be able to identify the shapes that make them (Lea, 2013).

The assessment of the student will involve a presentation in form of a drawing that will show the main shapes and the characteristics angels that make them named as included in the presentation such as, a triangle will require three faces and three angles that do not necessarily have to be equal but the student can recognize that a square should have equal angles (Lea, 2013).
