FORMATIVE QUESTIONS
What are the concurrent and consecutive methods of teacher training? What are their strengths and weaknesses?
The concurrent teaching method involves a pedagogy study incorporated alongside the teaching subjects a person is majoring in. After completing the concurrent teaching, a student-teacher receives the bachelor of education degree (Bed). On the other hand, the consecutive method involves a student acquiring the first for three-four years which is not related to the teaching profession, for instance, Bachelor of Science. Later enroll in pedagogy study for an additional one to two years that enable an individual to acquire either a certificate or a master's of education degree. The main strength of concurrent education enables teachers to have more integrated learning experiences since they acquire teaching training for more years. However, teachers enter the profession at a fairly young age, thus less knowledgeable and mature, to solve social challenges that both teachers and students face. The main advantage of consecutive training is that teachers have more knowledge of their major subject's contents because they stay in learning for more period. However, they face challenges of adapting to the school environment since they enter the profession at a much older age.
What do you think are some of the features of the best systems for teacher preparation?
The teacher preparation process should be effective and efficient to ensure students get the service they require from teachers. The best teacher preparation system should ensure teachers are equipped with enough knowledge in psychology to address the current challenges of depression and drug abuse affecting many students. The teacher preparation program should also incorporate cultural competence education to enable teachers to provide quality education to diverse cultures in the current world. The teacher preparation should also equip teachers with technological knowledge to enable them to conduct online classes. The teacher preparation should also equip teachers with knowledge on conducting research that will enable them to provide evidence-based education.
What features do you believe could China and or the US best adapt for their use?
Due to advancements in technology and experiences of high migration to China and the USA in the attempt of the individual to acquire quality education, the two countries should adopt a teacher preparation system that emphasizes knowledge to identify students with technological talents, particularly in Mathematics and science subjects. The process will enable the two countries to prepare more students for more workforces in the future industry sector. The two countries should also ensure teachers have enough knowledge of cultural competence education to cater to students who migrated to those countries for the last few decades.
SYNTHESIS QUESTIONS
Introduction to the issue: Why teacher preparation is important for educational success. What are the two systems, and what are their strengths and weaknesses?
Teacher preparation is essential for education success since it ensures learners get quality services since the teacher preparation program only chooses the best candidates to train as qualified teachers. There is two main teachers' preparation globally, including primary and secondary teachers' preparation programs. The primary system's main strength is that teachers are more knowledgeable on the provision of literacy and language knowledge to students. However, the primary systems prevent young students from forming a strong foundation for mathematics and sciences subjects. The secondary system's main strength is that teachers can provide more evidence-based learning, particularly in science subjects through laboratory practices. The secondary system's main weakness is it exposes the students to too much diverse knowledge preventing students from specializing in students like most.
What kind of system is used in the decision makers’ province?
Decision-making is a critical process in the management of students in school. The centralized system is the most common system used to decide the policies in a school environment. The system requires senior management to make major decisions concerning the school's finance decisions, student-to-student, teacher-to-student, and teacher-to-teacher relationship. The system is also known as the top-bottom approach of management. The senior management decision is always final, and all the stakeholders are bound to adhere to the roles and regulations set. The main weakness of this decision-making system, it leads to low morale among the junior employees since, they are not consulted during planning and implementation of major decision making in the school institution.
What kinds of adaptations and modifications would you recommend and why?
Based on the decision-making approach, I recommend learning to apply the bottom-top approach where junior employees can make opinions during planning, development, and planning of major decision-making process. Employees are always eager to embrace changes they have been involved in planning. Secondly, senior management should also establish a committee that enables various opinions from teachers across the board on the viability and applicability of new policies in the learning institution. The approach is not labor-intensive to the senior management because it only requires directors to approve, decline policies, or recommend changes. The community around the school institution should also be incorporated during decision-making to appreciate the community programs undertaken by a specific school.
Conclusion
Due to advancements in technology, as experienced in first-world countries such as China and the United States, it is essential to provide evidence-based learning through research and development. Secondly, decision-making is a critical aspect of school management; the school administration should invest in sponsoring teachers for programs that sharpen their management skills. A committee should be formed and be provided with resources for benchmarking to learning institutions with effective decision-making policies. Good policies create a conducive environment for students and educators. Effective decision-making enables learners to perform well, which is the main goal in a learning institution. Therefore, the benefits of incorporating a decentralized system in the decision-making process overweight its cost.
