Module 6: Intervention Programs & Part 3 of Case Study

Objectives: Students will examine specific literacy intervention programs utilized in their schools and/or districts.

Students will compare features of the literacy program to the MTSS For Success Right Path model. Students will interpret and examine the meaning of the completed assessments as related to phonics, spelling, fluency, comprehension, and writing.

Students will make connections with the reading case study student’s literacy & writing assessments to the Active View of Reading, Reading Rope, & Writing Rope.

Students will describe instructional strategies that will benefit the reading case study student’s growth areas determined from the completed phonics, spelling, fluency, comprehension, and writing assessments.

MTSS For Success Right Path.pdf

At Tier 2, schools provide small group, standardized academic, social, emotional, and behavioral supports

using validated intervention programs.

5. Group size as designed by developer, but typically

3 – 7 students.

1. Delivery and design is standardized.

2. Uses an evidence-based intervention

or evidence-based practices with fidelity.

4. Delivered by adequately trained staff.

10 Essential Features of Tier 2

7. Increased practice and feedback

on targeted skills relative to Tier 1.

6. Increased family involvement and communication

relative to Tier 1.

3. Prioritized for 15 – 20% of student population.

9. Frequency and duration of sessions, and

length of intervention defined by developer.

5. Regular monitoring of progress (i.e., monthly, weekly).

Reading Case Study Preparing to Submit Part 3 on Literacy & Writing Assessments 40 points

Attach the 5 assessments (attach as a jpg, pdf, etc.) into one file per an assessment.

Phonics Assessment (information found in Module 3)

Spelling Assessment (information found in Module 3)

Fluency Assessment (information found in Module 4)

Comprehension Assessment (information found in Module 5)

Writing Assessment (information found in Module 4)

I would suggest CamScanner (free) and you can combine into one file per assessment.

Organize your Part 3 template into the following sections:

Analysis of student performance

Make connections

Instruction

Describe & analyze student performance

Describe and analyze the student’s performance on each of these assessments. Clearly identify strengths and areas for growth and justify these claims with specific assessment data.

Develop 1 paragraph (4-6 sentences) per assessment:

Phonics Assessment Spelling Assessment Fluency Assessment Comprehension Assessment Writing Assessment

Make connections

Make connections between what you learned while administering the above literacy and writing assessments to the following models: Scarborough’s Reading Rope, Duke & Cartwright’s Active View of Reading, & Sedita’s Writing Rope.

TWO extensive paragraphs (minimum of 8-10 sentences each) in which you make any connections that you see between the Reading Rope, Active View of Reading & Writing Rope with the areas you’ve assessed.

Make sure to include each of the above models: Reading Rope, Active View of Reading & Writing Rope.

Find the models in the Reading Case Study folder.

Instruction

Utilizing materials from the modules, justify specific instructional strategies that address areas for growth, based on the patterns from the assessment data. Consider all data collected in Part 3 of the case study.

Indicate or “weave” the source of the information into your narrative like this: “In the Simple Practices article, I found….”

Discuss how you would implement each strategy into the student’s daily routine.

Provide 3-4 instructional strategies that are not currently being implemented.

Use the provided articles in the modules to find strategies.

SERD 6030 Reading Case Study Tips for Part 3 on Literacy & Writing Assessments 40 points

Attach the 5 assessments (5 pts) Scan so that all pages of each assessment are saved as one file. For example: Your fluency assessment has 4 pages. Scan the 4 pages and save as one document titled, Fluency Assessment. I would suggest CamScanner (free). You can combine into one file per assessment.
