Feedback 1:

Thank you for this - it's useful to see how far you’ve got to. A few thoughts:

1. Case study is a technique not a method. Its a semantic issue but pleas use case study as a technique.

2. The secondary data nature of the project is fine but you need to think carefully about what data is available, how much there is, what it says and whether you can access it. Documentary Analysis is good method to use but you also need to think about the parameters of your analysis in this. What questions will you use to interrogate the data, what themes are you thinking of using to structure this? What type of data will you generate and how will this be analysed?

3. You need to go further that just outlining what the documents say - there needs to be a level of critical reflection on this process to provide a more detailed understanding of the process of developing sponge cities and how this is shaped by political decision-making, policies and delivery programmes.

Feedback 2:

1. Can the construction of sponge cities be the framework for the development of sustainable urban drainage systems?”

I think you may need to think about this title - as the answer is yes, Sponge Cities(SC) are predicated on the development of SUDS/WSUD/LID as the key mechanism to control water and limit flooding. You need to be more nuanced with this and maybe ask whether the overarching policy of SC can be used to effectively mange urban flooding/water managing via the use of SUDS.

2. You might want to be more specific with your introduction - its set at a high level in terms of outlining the broad argument - could you add more specifics to it?

3. Do you need two ID the case study at the outset or in the title, as it reads like you’re assessing the value of SC to all of China, which isn’t the case. try to be precise. How are you going to align and analyse the differences between the high level national ideals of SC and the local application - what’s the process for doing this?

4. More specific detail on the methods and not the overarching approach to the methodology is needed to illustrate what you did, how and why. Explain the rationale for case study selection better and outline what questions and lines of interrogation you used to identify, analyse and report.

I’m not reading the other chapter as I’ll read it when its submitted but make sure you focus your line of argument on the key messages and issues that the dissertation will analyse. Set the context and link the literature to that context and ensure that there is a consistent line of argument going through the piece.
