When referring to decorative arts and their value, people might use the german word “kitsch” which is applied to foolish or pretentious art and design. It is important to find good design in decorative and functional objects, because it helps to make the room beautiful while also giving it function. To choose a good design, it doesn’t have to be extremely expensive. There are good and bad designs found at all different price points. It’s just up to you to figure out what a good design is. Mirrors are a great decorative piece that are commonly used in different interiors. A little background knowledge on mirrors is that they were discovered in the fourteenth century by the skilled artisans of Venice. They noticed that a layer of quicksilver sandwiched between a piece of tin and a piece of glass created a mirror. Mirrors can be obtained in many different sizes as well as frames. That way you can have a mirror to the size you’re looking for, and that also can help you harmonize with the style you’re going for. The most common ways they are used are to make a room look more spacious, add depth, or add sparkle. Mirror finishes include clear glass, smoked glass, Venetian glass (veined), beveled glass, leaded glass, and etched glass.
