Learning styles

a. Briefly explain what the term, ‘learning styles’ means.

Learning styles are basically the different teaching methods that can be used be a trainer to ensure learners absorb, process, comprehend thus retaining the information being taught

b. Name oneresource available to help you identify your learners’ preferred learning styles.

I use online resources through internet to help identify learning styles as I am able to read articles, journals and books from the internet.

c. Describe two examples of how your understanding of learning styles influences your practice as a trainer.

As a trainer I can be able to apply visuals and kinesthetic (Roz, 2016).By using visuals as a learning style through pictures or even advanced technology of projectors, I am able to know how to make the learners get different points. Using kinesthetic learning, I am able to know what my learners feel about different topics.

I would give the learners questionnaires in which I would have different questions to enable me know their problems.

b. Describe two training approaches you could use to meet diverse needs of individual learners within a learner group.

I would develop a learners’ profile where all individual learners would have their profiles. Then during discussions in class, I would ensure everyone participates and makes contributions.

c. Identify two situations where you have noticed (or may notice) a learner who was struggling with material.

For each situation:

· describe the situation

· explain what the learner/s said or did, which indicated that they were struggling

· describe how you helped the learner.

Situation one

A situation in which a learner struggled with material is when I gave out a passage during literature class and the learner was unable to fully comprehend by failing to read out the sentences in complete. In this situation I helped the learner by in intervening and helping to complete the sentences. I also encouraged the learner to do more practice so that the next time it would be easier for them to carry out the task required.

Situation two

In the same literature class another learner was too slow to read out the task assigned. I also encouraged him by being patient and helping out complete the reading. In this situation I also encouraged the learner to do more practice to improve on his speed.

The two sources of resources are the US department of education and national ability center.

Describe how you ensure healthy and safe learning. To do this, answer the questions below:

a. Before training

· What information do you give learners before training begins?

· What else must you do before training begins, to ensure healthy and safe learning?

Before training the trainer should be able to make the learners feel secured as this eventually contributes to their performance. As I trainer, I would caution all leaners to treat each other with respect and decorum. They should also avoid accidents

b. At the start of the training event

· What information do you give learners at the start of training?

· What else do you do at the start of training, to ensure healthy and safe learning?

At the start of the training event I would reiterate what I had earlier told them. I would further provide them with rules and regulations to go through before classes commence. I would also advise them on good safety and health practices and what steps they should take in case of an emergency

I would use a computer laptop and a projector to aid in presentations. Using the computer, I would do research through online resources and hence prepare a presentation with Microsoft PowerPoint. Then when presenting, I would project the slides using the projector with the laptop connected to it.

b. Name two principles of effective communication, and explain how you use each to ensure clear communication between you and your learners/audience.

Principle of clarity and simplicity are used to ensure effective communication. I would ensure that there is clarity by having a clear loud voice. The presentation would be short and straight to the point to ensure there is simplicity.

For work ethics, I would ensure that I work with integrity by ensuring I adhere to the rules and regulations of the workplace. I would also ensure I am a team member by ensuring that there is cooperation for the good of the organization.

Training records are recorded throughlearners’ profiles and fed to the computers for future reference.

The information is stored in secure cloud computer software and it is also encrypted. Persons who would want to access the information would require log in passwords.

Describe a systematic process that your workplace uses (or could use) to review and evaluate the effectiveness of training sessions or presentations you deliver and explain the benefits of doing this.

After the end of the training, alllearners are given assessment sheets to assess their trainers thus helping improve on the training. These assessments reported are then filed back to the management where recommendations are adopted. This is later archived for future use
