A1 Short Case Assignment

I am currently working as an intern as a junior associate for a real estate company and its unpaid. This is my last semester at California State University Northridge so I’m taking six classes which is in total eighteen units. The issue is that my team leader/ supervisor is giving me more work to do than what was intended. I only had to come to the office four days a week but now since he wants me to be on board a big project that is coming up, he wants me to come to work on the weekends as well. This makes it six days a week. It’s a good feeling that he trusts me and asks for my opinions on the project but it’s getting to be a tad overwhelming.

During the weekly meetings, he would ask advice from me about the big project that is coming up. I didn’t exactly say I am on board with it but at the same time I don’t have the heart to say no. He would ask me if I could oversee the planning for it and make sure that everything is going smoothly. However, since I would be required to work during the weekends this troubles me. I go to CSUN four days a week, Monday through Thursday. Since I am leaving back to my home country for good, I have a lot of things to do such as doing the paperwork for my dog to travel back with me. The added pressure would be a lot to handle.

I don’t want to ruin the relationship I have with my team leader because he is so well respected in the office. I just don’t want to disappoint him, this is why I can’t say no. Right now, I just don’t have the time to do this big project. I have essays and tests coming up too and I wouldn’t be able to study for them while getting enough sleep. I just don’t want to tackle something new when I have my hands full. Would it be disrespectful or rude if I just explain to my team leader that I just simply can’t take on the upcoming project? Or would he take it the wrong way and think that I am incapable of taking on big projects?
