a) History
3 KROGER’S GROCERY, WHICH WAS INITIALLY REFERRED TO AS GREAT
WESTERN TEA COMPANY AND LATER KROGER GROCERY AND BAKING CO.,
IS AN AMERICAN BASED CHAIN OF SUPERMARKETS. During the early 21st century,
Kroger was ranked as the third-largest chain store in the US. 4 THE HEADQUARTERS
OF THE COMPANY IS SITUATED IN CINCINNATI, OHIO. The origin of the company
business can be traced back to 1883, when Kroger, a former tea and coffee salesman who later
owned four stores by the 1885 (Kroger Co., 2019). The company later owned different food
products, growing to more than 40 stores.
b) Structure A combination of the foods and drugs sold defines the structure that the stores will
take. The structure of stores comprises various departments responsible for the execution of
various broad roles and responsibilities (Kroger Co., 2019). For example, general merchandise
items, department of clothing, and automotive products department.
c) Industry Kroger is categorized in the retail industry. Two products to be examined here are
beverages and sacks. Both beverages and snacks in the shop are found in full packages, and in
all sorts of brands (Kroger Co., 2019). Most of the beverages sold are ready for consumption by
the end users.
d) Net revenue and Earnings in the last three years
According to the article, macro-financial statements, annual revenue, and earnings of Kroger
Grocery for the last three years have not been normal. The values kept on changing. The annual
increase from 2016 to 2017 was an increase, 2017-2018 was a decrease while 2018-2019 was an
increase. "Kroger annual revenue for 2018 was $123.28B, a 6.89% increase from 2017, Kroger
annual revenue for 2019 was $121.852B, a 1.16% decline from 2018, Kroger annual revenue for
2020 was $122.286B, a 0.36% increase from 2019” ("Kroger Revenue 2006-2020 | KR", 2020).
1 E) TWO EXTERNAL FACTORS RAMIREZ-SANTOS REVEALS THAT KROGER
IS AMONG THE LARGEST SUPERMARKET CHAINS PRESENT IN THE UNITED
STATES. The supermarket owns approximately 2700 stores, which are distributed over 35

states and Columbia district. The workforce of the chain is approximated to at least 400000
employees. The larger number of employees are Hispanic (Ramirez-Santos, 2017). Other
minority groups have been allowed to work in stores. 1 TWO MAJOR EXTERNAL
FACTORS THAT CAN IMPACT THE SUCCESS OF AN ORGANIZATION'S
ENVIRONMENT ARE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION. The two are vital to the successful
growth of the company.
The issues of diversity should not be narrowed down to company employees alone, and it also
incorporates the entire supermarket industry, whereby where the market is filled with products
depicting the diversity of the clients. A large number of Hispanics triggered the company to
develop a Spanish website whereby they can access the required information in their language.
Kroger is listed in the top ten organizations in the US, which have considered the issue of
inclusivity a greater height. 1 "EVERY DAY THE KROGER FAMILY OF COMPANIES
MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF EIGHT AND A HALF MILLION
CUSTOMERS AND 443,000 ASSOCIATES” (THE KROGER CO., 2017). The company
is also known as one of the most generous because of its efforts to support more than 100
Feeding America food bank partners. The company also offers support to breast cancer
awareness and more than 145,000 community organizations.
Five ways in which primary stakeholders can influence organization performance Stakeholders
have the power to impact an organization either positively or negatively. Investors, clients,
employees, and suppliers are regarded as being primary investors. In whatever the company
chooses to do, stakeholders must be consulted in all ways possible. Although the stakeholders
impact the company, companies also impact stakeholders in several ways. 5 KROGER'S

ORGANIZATIONS, AND NON-PROFIT CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS.” AS
POINTED OUT IN THE ARTICLE KROGER CO., THE FOLLOWING ARE THE FIVE
WAYS THROUGH WHICH PRIMARY STAKEHOLDERS CAN IMPACT
ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE.

a) First Power
Firstly, through sharing information and listening to associate feedback. This is important
because it facilitates recognizing existing challenges and understanding what is done well in
organizations and how they can be supported. Utilization of face to face discussion and holding
regular employee training ensure that associates easily connect to team members.
b) Second power The second way is regular communication with both local and international
trade unions via online meetings and also collective bargaining agreement (CBA). This impacts
the performance of the organization as plans will be easily met.
c) Third power
Thirdly, the creation of a close relationship with the surrounding communities and the
neighborhood. This can be attained by engaging them in activities the company does like
offering community care.
d) Fourth power Fourth is shifting focus on the ongoing site visits, organizational audits, and
meetings between the company and manufactures and suppliers. This will uphold the mutual
understanding of the parties making up the company.
e) Fifth power The last factor is fully engaging the government policymakers and officials at the
national level. This is meant to increase the awareness of the Kroger's commitment and
accountability as a grocery retailer in the US.
6 CONTROVERSIAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY CONCERN
ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR COMPANY
Kroger was involved in a controversy that revealed that the company is yet to close all its stores
present in the black neighborhoods. In defense of the claims, the company insisted that all the
firms that are not doing well in generating profits will be closed. The firms will be closed based
on their sales and profits records and not by their geographic location. 7 RAINEY POINTS

REVEALS THAT ALL THE SHOPS TO BE CLOSED LIE IN THE MINORITY
COMMUNITIES (RAINEY, 2018). This triggered people living in the community to
demonstrate and hold rallies in front of the stores, purported to be closed. While the rallies
were going on, Kroger decided to close a total of 41. Closure of the stores was later explained in
a statement that stated that they must make profits so that they can serve their customers.
Conclusion In conclusion, social performance is among the top strategies through which
organizations' social missions are achieved. Organizations must administer their social
performance knowingly and carefully if they have to attain a powerful social performance. 8
WOODS (2016) POINTED OUT THAT “IT REFERS TO THE PRINCIPLES,
PRACTICES, AND OUTCOMES OF BUSINESSES’ RELATIONSHIPS WITH
PEOPLE, ORGANIZATIONS, INSTITUTIONS, COMMUNITIES, SOCIETIES, AND
THE EARTH, IN TERMS OF THE DELIBERATE ACTIONS OF BUSINESSES
TOWARD THESE STAKEHOLDERS AS WELL AS THE UNINTENDED
EXTERNALITIES OF BUSINESS ACTIVITY.” IN MY OPINION, KROGER HAS
DONE THE BEST IN TERMS OF SOCIAL PERFORMANCE. It is evident that the
company has a large number of customers, and many people are happy with the services the
company is offering the surrounding community.
