Abstract
Systemic racism is the uprising of the white race over the other races in terms of social status. Arguably, it raises influence to the other groups on their treatment by the system of justice though could also condition their housings, education, health, and hiring, among other aspects of their lives. This form of Racism may be obvious though it may also be done unconsciously, thus creating inequality among the citizens.
This context also reflects on the impacts of this type of Racism which are: Wealth gap, Education biasness, Employment Gap, among others. In wealth, the gap between the White race and other races, the blacks in particular, can be evident regarding the employment and the wealth in general. Racism is commonly based on making money. Taking money forcefully, by fraud, together with other forms of manipulating of people is what upgrades the white as a class with the expense of the negro as a class.
In education, a black student has more likelihood of getting suspended rather than a white student if not enough evidence is submitted. This Racism starts all the way from elementary school towards the end of the high school years. The Negro student is four times likely to face disciplinary actions as compared to the white students who commit the same mistake.
Lastly, in employment, the fact that the average blacks without work is larger than the average of whites without work in the United States of America shows as evidence. This commonly goes to the people who have an extensive educational level since the African Americans who even have the college degrees struggle to find employment.
Along the problems are the solutions to the issues such as: Improving the opportunities for bargaining and modernizing the laws of labor collectively, the raising the minimum wage, and increasing the number of teachers in the country. The latter is then preferred out of all the solutions since anyone can learn according to their abilities.
Lastly, the differences between the other solutions and the solution most preferred are highlighted, such as a decrease in Racism due to the availability of teachers even for those suspended or imprisoned students.
Systematic Racism’s impact and possible solutions
Introduction
The word 'systemic racism' is the uprising of the white race over the other races in ways such as social status. Arguably, it raises influence to the other groups on their treatment by the system of justice though could also condition their housings, the form of education, health, and hiring among other aspects of their lives. This form of Racism may be obvious though it may also be done unconsciously, thus creating inequality among the citizens. In this context, the impacts of the systemic Racism are reflected, such as the Wealth and the employment gap, Education biasness, Employment Gap and gap in immigration, among others.
These impacts of systemic Racism have various solutions that the marginalized groups may adapt for them to promote equity and equality among themselves. According to alexander in the newest Jim crow, The solutions also have a fair number of advantages and disadvantages to the communities and are therefore taken to considerations. Problems such as the wealth of the African Americans gap and the employment gap together with the educational gap, as will be discussed in the context, are foreseen as some of the significant issues reflecting this form of Racism (Alexander,2011).
Impacts of the Systemic Racism.
The gap between the White race and other races, the blacks in particular, can be evident when it comes to the employment and the wealth in general. Payne stated that “The slavery, segregating of the other races together with discriminating are some of the components that lead to theft in America” (2021). Racism is commonly based on making money. Taking money forcefully, by fraud, together with other forms of manipulating of people is what upgrades the white as a class with the expense of the negro as a class.
It is reported that the white Americans are considered to have the management of the entire country's wealth of over 86% percent. The Negros have the possession of around 5% of the wealth, and the minor group, which are the Latinos having control of about 4% of the wealth (Inglis,2021). With this report, it is evident that the white citizens have acquired around ten times more wealth than the negro. The gap is worsened by the racist hire practices whereby many preferred employers are the whites rather than the other communities.
The second impact is in education. The systemic Racism has averted the educational system in the United States of America. In the institutions, a black student has more likelihood of getting suspended rather than a white student if not enough evidence is submitted. This Racism starts all the way from elementary school towards the end of the high school years. The Negro student is four times likely to face disciplinary actions as compared to the white students who commit the same mistake (Coates,2011).
In addition, the negro student is also exposed to the likelihood of being held back by disability in the classes. Around 37% of the black students get held back due to various problems in their classes which is a very high number of students (Lee,2021). The black students are furthermore likely to face law enforcements charges as compared to the white students with the same mistake. This makes them a target in their schools to face severe punishments that hinder them from getting the academic help they need.
The employment gap is another issue that is reflected by the systemic Racism occurring in the U.S. This is evidenced by the fact that the average of black people without work is larger than the average of whites without work in the United States of America. This commonly goes to the people who have an extensive educational level since the African Americans who even have the college degrees have struggles in finding employment. This is even worse since some employers even neglect other people because of having black-sounding names in their application forms. Others have their chances reduced by 60% compared to the citizens who have white-sounding names (Duvernay,2021). Some minority groups are even further prevented from getting close to the workplace even when qualified for the job.
The solutions to Systemic Racism.
There are various solutions brought about against systemic Racism, and some of these solutions are: Improving the opportunities for bargaining and modernizing the laws of labor collectively. The Union density among the black workers has been declined, therefore causing an effect on them since they are widely represented by them (Cherry, 2016). As the "right to work laws" are implemented by many, it has disadvantaged the blacks since they are prevented from the opportunity to be in a union, thus having a decline in the collective bargain of the workers.
In 1984, about one-fourth of the workers were the member of the union as compared to 2016 where the number dropped to 13 percent (Bone,2017). The workers, in particular the black women, were extensively involved in the efforts for the expansion of bargaining collectively. Some of these unions were created to bring up the health facilities as led by the black women (Bartie,2017). Arguably, the CAP has called for the policies that aid improve the power of the worker, thus easing the workers to take part in the collective bargaining. As stated in a report, proposals by the CAP for essential changes towards the collaborative bargain structure aided with the improvement of the worker power. The recommendations included the moving to the industrial-wide collective bargain.
The following solution addressing this issue is the raising of the minimum wage. The United States Labor Department stated that since 2008, the minimum wage of the workers was $8.36 per hour in 2018(2018). The movement that was held recently increased the compensation to 14 dollars an hour which would have affirmative change toward the Negros. As stated by “policymakers require to need to reinforce the Earned Income task, which contains the same result of increasing the incomes for the low-wage families (Greenstein,2017).
The state of affairs can be avoided since last year the National Teaching Commission on the hereafter of America gave out a set of new policies to make sure that there is a teacher has care and competence for the child together with supporting of the children’s success by the schools as another solution. Thirteen states have formed alliance with the commission, whereas others are likely to join during the year.
The Federal Higher Education Act maintains the pending bills in order to be assured that the teachers with qualifications are employed and prepared for learners in all institutions. This may decrease the number of black students who are suspended, thus enabling them to learn as the states such as Kentucky, Connecticut, North Carolina and Minnesota have done. These entire states can offer education spending equally to all students and not just the white race, improve their standards of teaching and reduce the shortages of teachers.
The districts with the schools can shift the assets from the administrative in order to gain support for the employed teachers. They offer a curriculum which contains challenges in few small institutions, as more prominent institutions in San Diego and New York. The schools that have their students who have their lives on poverty, dependency welfare already have brought out higher attainments, especially with the African American, with exceeding 80% of their learners going to higher institutions as stated by the United States Labor Department (2018). With focus of essential issues, the students learn with great opportunity. This, in turn, may enable the community to realize what they can accomplish together.
Another solution is the innovative teaching solution. The commonly used temerity about education is imbalance. It inhabits with those who go to institutions with few capabilities for gaining from what the institution has to offer them. This issue preserver broad opportunities to learn is commonly unknown. Schools with presumptions are not operated at the moment whereby the students require decent teachings and learning as a course matter. Other states, together with the local defendant, have fought the school finances and non-isolation case with declaration that the restoratives are not needed lest proven to have equal outcomes.
Arguably the statements against the equality of opportunities have made it an advantage on the forecast of DuBois on the 20th-century problem could exist based on color. This raises the solution of Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship may be the platform of wealth-building, especially for the unemployed black Americans (Bone,2017). Several policies, for example: The State Small Business Credit Initiative, have been brought out with the aim of loaning people with small businesses in 2010. With this, the locals were allowed to start their small businesses with also the consideration of the local economic conditions in mind.
The (SSBCI) was started in order to increase access to the funds by the people of color due to their unemployment conditions. The initiative was later approved by the President Obama's administration in 2016 though while he proposed the un-authorization of the final budget, Trump’s administration was not engaged in the efforts. However, the head of state, Donald Trump, put forward the turning down the Administrating of the economic Development in order for him not to support it. With the loss of these initiatives, the African Americans lose the capability to bring up and keep wealth.
The final solution is to reinforce a job guarantee. Since it is strenuous to estimate the amount of discrimination in the labor market for the low-income wage and the employment rate among the Negro workers, it is evident that it accounts for some share of inequality. Academics such as Coates, Alexander, and Duvernay have proposed conducting a guarantee of the job by the federal which would expand the Negro worker’s access towards a stable employing, thus strengthening the negotiation of power by providing to the administration as an employer.
If the government needs to hire people with particular requirements, the African Americans with those requirements and the will to work may get employed through the federal job guarantee(Pavlina,2012). Alexander also stated that an ELR initiative would get rid of the discriminating Unemployment penalty that the negro come across. In the following months, the CAP aims to bring out a proposed policy that is more detailed, entailing how a program of public employment may be implemented in the United States of America."
Opinion
In my opinion, the best solution would be the teaching solution. This is because the affairs state has been unavoidable since last year. The Teaching National Commission of the hereafter of America gave out a set of new policies to make sure that there is a qualified teacher who cares, have competence for the child together with supporting of the children's success by the schools as another solution. Thirteen states are in alliance with the commission, whereas others are likely to join during the year.
The Federal Higher Education Act maintains the pending bills in order to be assured that the teachers with qualifications are employed and made ready for students in all schools. This is said to decrease the number of black students who are suspended, thus enabling them to learn just like: Kentucky, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Minnesota have done, the entire states are able to offer education spending equally to all students and not just the white race, improve their standards of teaching and reduce the shortages of teachers. Compared to the job guarantee, the teachers may aid the students who also drop out of school in still completing their education and maybe even qualify for the University.
In conclusion, the Systemic Racism may happen in many contrary forms, including psychologically though many of the citizens who experience this are the African Americans. This form of Racism is reflected in different aspects such as in wealth and employment gap, the Education gap, and the employment gap. These problems are later solved in different ways through; one solution that stood out was the Teacher recruitment solution since many students may benefit in wherever place they are as compared to the other forms where the Racism may still occur.
