MAY 20/21-DESIGN “The Principles of Design” (This is Chapter 7 in your Text).

Principles are really what are the main rules that make something work.

Also, Refer to your book The World of Art , Chapter 7, “The Principles of Design.

Assignments on Design:

1) Write a one to two page essay about what types of design you find appealing and why.

2) Find a piece of art you like and analyze the design. One to two pages Include:

a. Why do you like it?

b. What principles do you see being used?

*Description of Final Project:

You can write a paper or do a piece of art yourself. See below.

(1) Choose an Artist or Art Movement that you like (not El Anatsui or Kahinde Wiley as you have already written on them) and write a two to three page paper on this artist or art movement.

Include what interests you about this artist or art movement?

Suggestions: ARTIST-could be one that you saw at the DIA or in your

book, etc. You might like Jacob Lawrence, Gordon Parks (photographer), Vincent Van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Pablo Picasso, A graffiti artist, your friend’s art.

Suggestions: ART MOVEMENTS- Artists of the Harlem Renaissance,

The Italian Renaissance, Cubism, Impressionism, Graffiti, and others.

OR

2) DO A PIECE OF ART-sculptural, painting, drawing, etc. It can also be a

handcraft or landscape project.

Take photos of it and send a one page write up about your process and what interested you in doing it.
