Quantitative Techniques for Managers

Render, Barry; Stair, Ralph M Jr; & Hanna, Michael E: Quantitative Analysis for Management, 12th edition, including QM for Windows and Excel QM Software Packages, Prentice Hall 2015.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course examines the role of quantitative research methods in leadership and decision-making. It requires students to take an analytical view of decision-making by quantifying trade-offs, specifying constraints and allowing for uncertainty. Students explore the development of models and the role of managerial judgment in assessing the appropriateness of these applications as a basis for leadership decisions.
Prerequisites: Competency in Statistics.
Course Objectives
1. Be able to select & use quantitative models for given business scenarios
2. Know how to select data and make quantitative decision calculations
3. Use computer software designed to facilitate quantitative analysis
4. Be able to evaluate quantitative calculation results and recommend solutions
Regression Analysis Project
Students will work individually on this project
Please use Excel Data Analysis
Excel Data Analysis is recommended. Follow the instructions in the text book for adding in Data Analysis to Excel (see Section 4.7 page 124 and Appendix F page 571)
The key skill that will emerge from this course is the ability to take and develop information through regression analysis. The chapters will provide the key information for the development of regression analysis.
The outcome for this assignment will be the development of the following analysis from a data set you have found.
The assignment will include:
1. Bivariate and Multiple regression analysis.
2. Evaluation using the F and t statistics
3. Scattergram analysis
4. Residual chart analysis
5. Discussion and analysis of the slope, y intercept, and regression equation.
6. Discussion of your hypothesis and null hypothesis
Homework
Weekly homework is assigned, and will be done on an individual basis.
*** Please present one document for each homework assignment.
*** If you use QM for windows, please copy (screen prints, hit print screen, open a word session, and then paste while in word) or save as excel file (then combine all into one excel file). If you do not know how to do a screen shot/print screen, please email me for directions.
