Syllabus

Course Overview

Welcome to your Capella University online course, 7864 – Quantitative Design and Analysis.

In this course, you will be introduced to the logic, computation, and interpretation of statistics. Decision-making skills in the research process will also be emphasized. While the computation of statistics with software will be an important part of this course, more emphasis will be placed on the application and interpretation of statistical results.

This course has three major requirements, each of which will contribute to your final grade:

1. Unit discussion participation. (See the Response Guidelines for each discussion.)

2. Assignments requiring the use of a statistical program, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).

3. A research journal summary.

Course Guidelines

In preceding courses, you were likely required to work on a course project that was purposeful in demonstrating your understanding of the overall course competencies. However, in this course there is not a final project. Instead, you will complete and submit:

Weekly discussion postings. Six unit assignments (in Units 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10).

The assignments in Units 6–10 have a common set of guidelines and similar rubrics. Completion of these assignments will involve using the Data Analysis and Application (DAA) Template. Be sure to review the SPSS Data Analysis Report Guidelines for more information on these assignments.

Course Competencies To successfully complete this course, you will be expected to:

1. Analyze the computation, application, strengths, and limitations of various statistical tests.

2. Analyze the decision-making process of data analysis.

3. Apply knowledge of hypothesis testing.

4. Interpret the results of statistical analyses.

5. Apply a statistical program's procedure to data.

6. Apply the results of statistical analyses (your own or others) to your field of interest or career.

7. Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with the expectations for members in the identified field of study.
