In 2019 the United States spent 3.8 trillion on health care which includes 370 billion on prescription drugs alone and the average individual in the US will spend more than 1100 hundred dollars annually out of pocket on healthcare (Essien et al., 2021). The United States has significant higher costs and does not consistently deliver superior health outcomes in compared to other countries that follow a different health care system. In regards to whether the United States health system is better when it comes to disease management and preventive medicine is where we are severely lacking. Racial and ethnic minorities population who have chronic diseases are more likely to not have sufficient insurance or lack insurance completely to be treated ongoing (Essien et al., 2021). The US healthcare system is primarily based on private, market driven with a variety of public and private providers and insurers. In compared to other nations that have universal health systems where the government plays a more prominent role in providing and financing healthcare. Financing these private health insurance plans relies heavily on employer sponsored plans and out of packet payments, Canada and the UK system rely on tax funded systems and social health insurance. In contrast to Cana they follow a single payer system where the government funds healthcare services however, provincial governments systems manage their own healthcare system but patients may have to wait significant wait times.

          The United States has a higher rate of individuals that are uninsured. According to the Center of Disease Control report on the National Health Statistics Report (2022), in 2020 there is an estimated 31.6 million people of all ages that were uninsured in the United States. The US healthcare system is fragmented in organizations, financing and out comes. The United Kingdom and Canada have overall better health outcomes in comparison to the United States. In regards to disease management the United States tends to focus more on disease management and there is less of a focus on preventative care. The US health insurances requires payments therefor it serves an incentive to treat a disease rather than pay to prevent one. I contrast to the United Kingdom has public health campaigns to raise awareness about specific health issues and promote healthy behaviors.
